    Blackgum aka Tupelo

With no luck, typically a large tap root and no feeders to speak of. They would push growth then die. I have a small forest started now though and they are doing well. No real experience with ramification yet. Hope yours make it.

Do you water foliage? Or does it slow down the growth rate??

Watering the foliage itself isn't going to slow growth by any measurable amount alone, the effect of constantly wet foliage at the right time of spring will cause different types of fungal growth to occur, ie; powdery mildew, scab, blight. This in turn will decrease photosynthetic ability and...

    Beech ground layering?

Ohmy222, I typically only see these on very large old beech or in this case an existing root system from a dead parent tree. The deer keep these pruned down every year. Sorce, I'm having a little trouble visualizing what you're saying. Are you saying try to layer the large root this is growing...

    Beech ground layering?

Found this one today, this would be an awesome tree in short order I believe. Any other tips or suggestions to try and layer this? This is growing on an old root system, the parent tree has been gone for many years. It's amazing how root systems will graft and continue to live. The...

    Help! Massive Juniper Scale(?) Infestation!

Without reading this whole post and not knowing if this has been said before.. Soft scales - produce honeydew and are xylem feeders, they CAN be killed by immidicloprid or with a spray during the crawler stage. Armored scales - do not produce honeydew and feed on individual phloem cells...

    Beech ground layering?

Found this unique root sucker off a very large beech, actually I find these quite often and some have incredible character. Are these able to be layered off the parent root?

    Whitey..

This tree definitely drinks more than others and I keep it pretty wet. But yes, there isn't much info out there on this species. I'm just kind of winging it as I go. Paradox, when did your tree abandon its branches?

    Big Haw!

Nice planting mike! That sounds like solid advice and they can definitely be wired still. Everything I'm reading and watching suggest they hate root pruning and respond negatively towards it. Is this a correct assumption? Timing wise, when would be acceptable to wire this?

    Big Haw!

Well dog gone it David!! I should have made a summer trip over. Thanks for the information everyone, I appreciate it. There is still some flexibility in the branches so I think I can wire them, I just always get stuck on which branches to use in the design, I guess this is where my foresight ends.
