    What's your dream tree?

Fujikawa has a double trunk Hinoki That I just love and there was an amazing Tsukomo cypress from the BSOP rendezvous that really spoke to me.

    What's your dream tree?

A nice old and elegant Hinoki or Tsukomo cypress. Just love the foliage when highly ramified. I def prefer a more slender elegant trunk.

    Diggin Yew

I don’t know Leatherback. I’ve not had much success with summer collecting anything, let alone Taxus. Nursery Taxus die if I look at them wrong. BUT, even if 1 makes it it was worth the effort. Who am I kidding, even if they die, it was worth the chance of them surviving. I know I would...

Evolution of a Seiju elm from 2015

Love seeing progressions like this. Cheers to your efforts on a good tree now and a GREAT future tree.

    Cascade? Not so much?

I saw it too. Beautiful tree. Looks EXACTLY like mine....

    Cascade? Not so much?

The floating nature of the base is what drives me the most crazy. It started as a much wider base and nebari but a portion of the trunk died or had already been dead and it slowly rotted out. In the process of cleaning it up it left me with this small amount of live wood that actually makes...

How dare you Peter!! Coming in here with your opinion on my Bonsai!! I didn’t come here to talk Bonsai or have others give me there opinions!!!

    Cascade? Not so much?

I like that optimism!! I’ve got a few ideas. And I’m sure I’ll just go for it one day soon. Either way, this shot is just fun. This will never be a show stopper, but dam I enjoyed working out every tip of this tree.

    Cascade? Not so much?

It’s def not my best tree, but one of those that’s been with me a few years now, so I’d hate to give up on it at this point.

    Cascade? Not so much?

Yeah I just need to pull the trigger on a direction. Ultimately the upper section is what I like more and I think eliminating 2 or 3 of those pads in the downward directed line will balance things out better.

    Cascade? Not so much?

I feel like if I’m going to wire, I might as well do the best I can. And if I can make decent trees look good with quality wiring, I’d hope I can make good trees look great. There is just something about this tree that feels off. Always has. Some days I like it, some days I don’t. I can’t...

i wish I had more to choose from locally though. Though I’ve ordered a few small trident maples, I don’t love the idea of mail order trees. I think I need to get over it though! 😆

They are. They are not the best candidates. Typically. At least that’s my understanding. The tight foliage on this one seemed different than most.

    Grey Owl. Thinned & Styled

Glad it’s coming around Mike. I think I’m also dealing with tip blight on a shimp. Need to get some mancozeb myself.

Any “pot heads” wanna suggest a specific shaped vessel for this tree? Is it deserving of a good pot?

    Leatherbacks Veni Vidi Vici trees

Or at least month to month. But there are some I still have that I keep expecting to be better and they just aren’t. Wether it’s climatic issues or fungus I can’t keep on top of.

    Leatherbacks Veni Vidi Vici trees

Yeah I like it. I’ve been feeling this more and more lately. BVFs thread on our top 3 and bottom 3 has been resonating heavy with me lately. I’m working on those rankings now, this after reducing my collection by 12 or so. Trying to make space for future collections and better all around trees.

What made you get rid of the carpinus? Was the base awful?

Thanks for saying Peter. And I’m surprised you can’t. While I’m sure where you live in NE Oregon is not teaming with bonsai perfect nurseries, Albuquerque isn’t exactly a hot bed for this stuff! 😂

    Cascade? Not so much?

Hey Leo. I always welcome your comments and opinions. This is one of those trees I bought years ago when I was just buying up any cheap nursery stock I could. It’s developed more and more issues as time as moved on. At angles and at times the top and bottom work well together but it’s always...

I think you e done a great job with this. Having those bases as close as you’ve got them will only make for a great composition long term.
