Hey Will, Absolutely Beautiful Tree!!!! I hope it survives!! I can't wait (but I must have patience) to see what you do with the deadwood. I have in-laws in Vegas and I had given up on the idea that there was anything worth finding out there (not like it would survive out here anyway). Also...

    Goodbye old friend!!

However in one of the more recent cases that I filed, the detectives believe a squirrel killed and carried the tree off. lol Ted

    New Bald Cypress....

I agree their prices are a bit high especially for the quality. I did not know it was on consignment from Meehans. The tree I got was a pretty good price for the size and thickness of the trunk. If it was at Behnkes it would have cost a lot more. If you go to Behnkes for a BC, expect to pay no...

    New Bald Cypress....

You might also look at Wolftrap Nursery in VA. They have bonsai and landscape plants. When I visit, I don't tend to buy the bonsai. I got a bald cypress in there landscape section a couple years ago that has a 4.5" trunk. Ted

My seedling is GONE!! Seriously, who gets robbed by squirrels. ME!!

Hey Victrinia It is funny as hell and irritating as hell. I felt like my parents used to when I was a child and I did something very wrong but so funny,,,,,, like when I was 7yo my dad hired me for $8 to pick some weeds. When he left and after I worked for a little while, I decided to hire a kid...

My seedling is GONE!! Seriously, who gets robbed by squirrels. ME!!

Hey all, I need protection. I have a mob syndicate of squirrels running their operation out of my backyard. When I moved into the house 2 yrs ago, the squirrels immediately came to our door expecting large sums of peanuts in payment for protection (previous owners fed them). They would...

    Satsuki Azalea

Hey Duane, I remember seeing this tree on another forum. This is a great tree and the flowers are terrific!! Its thriving under your care. I agree, I think you should grow one of the branches back. Seeing to much of the trunk is distracting from the overall beauty of the tree. Keep the updates...

    Bald cypress advice

Emergency repot! What was going on with it? I definitely feel lucky with the BC from HD. Who would have thought they would carry it. I just happen to enter HD through the garden department out of habit and look what I found :). I cant say that I will take this same risk next year though... On...

    My first Cryptomeria

Thanks everyone, I am really excited about this one. I think it has potential and will be really fun to work with. I will watch out to make sure its not getting to much sun though in Maryland, we cant compare to the heat in Alabama. Plus, I have 6 large trees in my back yard. Thanks Will, much...

    Bald cypress advice

Thanks. I have been looking for more pictures. I live visit the DC arboretum somewhat frequently so have been studying on of Vaughn's flat top bald cypress. Thanks for the link. I've seen them with the traditional apex. I have another BC that I will do that with but I seem to gravitate...

    Bald cypress advice

I bought this bald cypress from home depot for $45 about a month ago. It's actually the first time that I had ever seen them carry a bald cypress before. I was quite shocked when I saw it. The tree was approximately 8' tall when I bought it. This was the first time in my short bonsai career...

    My first Cryptomeria

Hey all, I recently met an older gentleman who maintains a nice plot of trees. He was wanting to get rid of some of the faster growing trees and allowed my to collect this cryptomeria for free (along with a hemlock, 2 junipers, and some smaller american elms). We hit it off immediately so I...

    Musk Maple

Thanks Will. I did appreciate your virt. I was not exactly sure where to go with this tree so it helped me see what could be done. I am much happier with the tree and its current direction. I will start searching for a smaller home for its next repot. Does anyone know how vigorous the roots...

    Musk Maple

LMAO :D. Yeah, nothing will touch these things. I am sure if its vaguely headache inducing to you it's straight antibuse to the rabbits. Ted

    Musk Maple

I did not like the smell when I first started working with it but after a while I am not bothered by it at all. I am actually amused by it now. I love seeing peoples reaction when they smell it. They tend to have a look of disgust and then look at me with a curiosity that says "you actually work...

    Musk Maple

Thanks. I was thinking the top was to heavy not the bottom. I am working on the ramification of the roots. When I got it, it was very root bound. I will look for a smaller pot for the next repotting. This tree is discussed in bonsai focus issue 116 pg28. They show three different types of...

    Musk Maple

Hey All, Here is my Musk maple (no relation to the palmatum family) that I have been working on for about two years. The first two pictures are early this year after repot. Third, is a virt from Will. Fourth and fifth are my rendition of Will's virt. Sorry for the shadows, I could not find the...

That was my concern as well. If I can develop something else, that would be preferable. What is a semi-girdle? Ted

    My PBA workshop Yew

Thanks Rob. This will take some years of work but I am happy with what I see thus far. During the workshop I did quite a bit of work on the shari and jins. I don't plan on doing anything more with this tree except keeping it healthy. I am waiting for the cambium to heal and I am hoping the vein...
