Cristmas get-together with ginger cookies and esthetics

Christmas get-together with ginger cookies and esthetics Since that tangents-thread is dying because of me, I thought we could revive the "community critique, anyone?"-thread instead and see if we could make something worthwhile out of it. Participation is volountary. If anyone doen't have a...

    Community tree critique, anyone?

Heya! I've got an idea. I was thinking that we could make a community critique of one of Walters trees to put the small bits of useful info in the "tangent"-thread to use (and also to add some other parts that I thought about posting in that thread but haven't gotten around to). I've chosen a...

    First glazed pots

I want to share some pics of my first glazed pots. I'm aware that they are a bit wonky here and there but so am I. I hope they are "enjoyable", if not I hope some can at least appreciate the effort hahaha.

    Tangents

In another thread I mentioned tangents, and them being considered "bad" in visual art. I'd like to explain that concept a bit further and to show how it relates to bonsai. Perhaps I should also mention that tangents are bad because the tend to "flatten" the image i.e. avoiding them is another...

    Been thinking about branch development...

Pine branches usually grow as in pic 1 (at least pinus sylvestris where I live), yet on bonsai they usually look like pic 2. Why? I can't be a matter of light since the branches could still be spread out...

    Doodling around

I found one(!!! ONE!!! Where are the other brushes!??) of my brushes today so I decided to doodle a bit. Sorry for the lack of detail, like I said I only found one brush. I'll try to make more, still trying to find out how to paint convincing foliage...

I guess autumn has its charm...

I just wanted to show the budding on my spruce. Nothin's been done to it, just water and feeding. No cutting or pinching! The second picture shows a bud on wood that's at least 7 years old...Sweet!

    Larch development.

Is this an ok development in a year and a couple of months? We have a pretty short growing season, from middle of May to end of August.

    Will you nuts help me?

I've been doing bonsai for almost three years now and have been trying to get as much bonsai-time (i.e. "quality-time" :)) as possible. I search the net on a daily basis, I have attended worshops with Marc Nöelanders and Steve Tolley, never missed a club meeting, and visiting about 5-6 different...

    Pine virtual.

Here's a virtual of a Pine (Pinus sylvestris) I've started working with. It had some styling (by me), and this is what I'm going for (I think). I've posted it elsewhere, so some of you might have seen it already:

Stick in a pot or Shohin material?

Here's one of the trees that maybe I should not have collected that I mentioned in another thread some time ago. I collected it two years ago (I think it's my second collected tree) because I wanted a shohin literati. I thought the bark was good for such a small tree, but I have changed my mind...

    Pinus sylvestris

Tachigi asked me if I have collected any of the trees I've shown here. I said "just one" but then remembered that there is another one. It's a Pinus sylvestris, about 60cm high. The link is a gif-animation of the tree. It's a bit big (+800kb) so consider yourself warned if you're on a crappy...

    Yamadori-trip

Heya! Just wanted to share some pics from a yamadori-trip last evening. All pictures were taken within 30 minutes. None of them are really spectacular but the last one I think is worth collecting.

    Future yamadori-projects (maybe)

Just thought I'd post some possible yamadori (Pinus sylvestris). I might collect one or two of them next spring. Edit: The yellow needles is because we had the hottest summer ever recorded. The two last ines are the same tree.
