    Air layer leaves dying

    I have done an air layer of an acer and there are roots appearing in the ball around the layer. However most of he leaves on this branch are shriveled and look dead but the roots are growing. Has this failed or might it survive ? I haven’t separated it yet . It’s a pretty thin branch I tried it on.

    Ficus trunk chop no buds

    Soil for trees growing/ thickening

    At what stage do you need to start using a proper soil? I have several trees in very large buckets with the hope of them thickening ASAP. Should I be using bonsai mix at this stage or can I use any old soil for now ?
