Been growing trident and Japanese maples in south Florida

That's a really interesting thread. One of the members is in zone 11 and going on 4 years growing a Japanese maple. From the research I've done it looks like the Green variety are more heat tolerant and the leaves don't burn as much. Are the leaves any thicker on the green Japanese maples and is...

I see you're in the same zone 10a as me. Your lows are the same but I think we get more rainfall. This week has been the start to the rainy season and we must have got over 5 inch's already . I actually have black pines but I wont even try a white pine down here. lol

Been growing trident and Japanese maples in south Florida

I'm sure the Japanese maples wont make it for a long time. The tridents that I grew from seeds I'm sure will be fine. They are looking better each year and fuller. These past 2 years they have been growing like crazy. You wont have any problem's growing tridents in Orlando. Just protect them...

I also have a few Rubrums that I collected. The Problem with them is there leaf size is a little large even after defoliating and after the 2nd flush comes in.

Biogold falling apart after first rainfall after applying.

Thank you! I read that Bio Gold you didn't have to put it in teabags. I just didn't know it fell apart so easy and was worried about it clogging up my soil.

Biogold falling apart after first rainfall after applying.

I applied some biogold to my trees and I noticed after one rainfall some of the pellets were already falling apart and looked melted. Did I get a bad batch? I also use Dr Earth but put it in teabags because of this. I guess I might have to do that with the biogold also.

I also don't defoliate in summer for a second flush of leaves. I want them to have as much energy stored up so they can push out there new flush for next year. I only remove them once a year in January then there in the full shade until spring.

    Which one would you choose?

Thank you for being honest. That's another reason I wanted to post them. I thought the Jin was neat and never seen that on a black pine but I guess it doesn't really belong on a black pine.
