    olive tree bonsai

hm good point. i think i'll maybe try it in the green house for a period and outside for a period to try and give it what it needs. if it doesn't work it was worth a try. n e ways, I really just posted this thread to see if people knew some sources for olive bonsai. again, thanks!

    olive tree bonsai

hey so yea I was doing some research as well and you're concerns are right. I do have access to an unheated greenhouse for winter storage though, so that was what I was planning to do during the colder months. I should've stated that in the beginning!

    olive tree bonsai

Hey all! So after spending a week in Florence, I've decided that I want to try growing an olive tree bonsai (olea). I've been looking at some websites etc., but I was wondering if any of the members here knew of a good place to get an affordable prebonsai. Thanks! bunzI

    trident pruning

Thanks for all the replies! Unfortunately I do not have any pictures available right now, but it's ok because I was only really looking for a generic answer. I just wanted to know if I should save the pruning of larger branches for late winter/ early spring (next year) or if I could do it after...

    trident pruning

Hello all! I'm new to trident maples and I was wondering when the best time to prune the branches is. There are some that are .5-1" thick that I need to clean up/get rid of and I want to shorten the overall height of my tree. If anyone could tell me when the best time to do some major...

    field grown trident

Matt, thanks for the suggestion. I forgot to mention that i think I'm going to go some kind of loose formal upright/informal. I like the relatively straight trunk, which is why I picked the tree, but I just was wondering how/if to wire this tree. I don't really want to do a drastic trunk...

    field grown trident

Hello all, I just got this trident maple from Frank Kroeker. :) It's about 3ft tall and the trunk is about the diameter of a coke can. I was wondering if any of you had thoughts on where to go from this. The trunk is awesome and the roots are pretty nice too. Any thoughts are appreciated...

    chinese elm from nursery

evmibo I repotted this elm and hard pruned it in Feb. This is what it looks like right now. I am growing a couple whips right now, the top one will become the new trunk and I'm looking at making a branch from the other one. I'm also going to chop the trunk a little right above the new trunk...

    chinese elm from nursery

Yea I checked to see what I was working with under the hood. It seems like this was made from a ground layer, and the nebari is pretty bad. It basically forms an upside down T with a segment of old branch in the root, so I was planning on doing an air/ground layer and starting a new root system...

    chinese elm from nursery

Hello world! I recently purchased this chinese elm from a nursery that needs quite a bit of work, but I wanted a project. The branch structure, secondary and primary, is not that great and needs work w/ overlapping, upward growth etc. Short of scraping it :p, I was curious as to what you guys...

    Silicone used for cut paste

I usually don't use sealant for my bonsai if I cut them in the winter. They all seem to do just fine. As far as silicone caulk goes, I would not suggest putting caulk on a tree. I know there are non-toxic alternatives, but if you are talking run-of-the-mill silicone caulk, that is toxic. I would...

    Ishitsuki bonsai

G, the Feb 4th post is awesome and pretty much what I'm going for. I want the junipers in with the rock and some moss interspersed. What kind of soil mixture should I be using? And I guess I should just look for this rock at a nursery? Regards

    Ishitsuki bonsai

Hello all! I am new to bonsainut, but I was wandering through some posts and didn't happen to see too many on this style. I am considering giving it a try with some junipers. Rather than root-over-rock, where the roots are coming down into the pot, I really want the tree to be contained in...
