    Japanese Black Pine Winter Work

Impressive tree. I cannot see the apical deadwood in the post-repotting photo. Did you keep the deadwood or remove it?

    junipers in the yard

I couldn't tell the first two Junipers were tanuki -- until I went back and read the post again. I was sitting there amazed at those Junipers. Bonsai is supposed to be art, and I know good art when I see it. As far as anyone criticizing them for being tanuki, for me this is like a fan of...

    So Bored!!!

The one with the orange fruit is not a pyracantha. It is a Calamondin -- what my Filipino wife calls a Kalamansi. I showed her the photo and she confirmed the I.D. We have one in the yard, but ours has leaves and fruit a little larger than that one. Looking at that one, I think pretty soon...

    Anyone with disabilities?

I have dyspraxia (impaired physical coordination) as a result of Asperger Syndrome. For that reason, my wiring was, is, and always will be sloppy. I can look at and admire the jewel-like wiring jobs other artists do, but I just cannot make my fingers perform the necessary fine movements...

Rocky Mountain Juniper Cascade; Which Front?

I think it needs a squarish cascade pot with rounded corners. Feet or a lip may not be necessary if the pot has enough visual mass. I think the simpler the pot's lines, the more it sets off the deadwood. This tree's native environment would be a mountaintop, growing among granite boulders...

    Weekend fun with shimpaku

That tree has changed a lot in four years. Thank you for keeping this thread alive. I think one thing that isn't shown enough in bonsai is how a tree evolves over time.

    First Try Twisting

I've wanted to try this technique for a while. I don't have any Shimpaku whips, though. However, I have a really leggy one gallon Black Pine, so if I do this, you will see my effort over in the Pine forum.

    Shohin pine stock

That tree does look good - it will be interesting to see how it develops.

I have the photo of Peter Macasieb's Manzanita up on my site, Kuromatsubonsai.com, or click the link in my sig -- if I got it to work right.

    semi-cascade manzanita

Peter Macasieb has collected a large, older Manzanita, with a lot of deadwood, and successfully containerized it. I saw it at the Bonsai-a-thon today, and I have a photo, and Peter's permission to publish the photo on my website. Hopefully I will get to it this evening or tomorrow. Peter's...
