My new very old ponderosa pine.

Picked this up from a friend today who collected it in the pikes peak area at 8000 ft. He collects a lot of them and due to the bark believes it to be 300-400 years old. You don't see bark like this on young pondy's. It's even has the red bark that does not start until they are a couple...

    Pine soil

This is a pic from eBay. Check out how healthy this JPB looks. It's almost unbelievable. House of bonsai has many of these on eBay and they all look like this. Now check out the soil they are planted in. Looks like almost at least 90% organic and very dry. Makes you think twice about the boons...

    Red Japanese maples white bark

I'm always struck in awe when I see a red leafed Japanese maple with stark white bark. Like the image here. I have two red leafed maples and the bark is light, but not stark white. I'm toying with the idea of applying lime sulfur to one of them to see if I can achieve this. Just wondering if...

2nd spring has started in Texas.

We sometimes joke about the "2nd spring" we have down here. I thought I would post some pics I took today of a trident maple I have. Those red leaves aren't burnt leaves. Those are a new flush of growth that just began.

    Small trident defoliation.

This summer I aggressively defoliated this little trident twice. Once on June 1st and again on August 1st. The leaves have hardened off and I thought I would share the results. I plan to keep doing this to this one every year. The leaf size decreased dramatically. I did three years worth of...
