    Thoughts on this Bougie?

Thanks guys, I agree on pulling branches back down, the last picture shows it's current state and unfortunately, the back doesn't have much on it yet. I do need to treat the deadwood a bit more, but was going to wait til I did more work on it because as you can tell, I have been hacking away at...

    Thoughts on this Bougie?

I consider myself new to bonsai still so wanted to get some opinions on this bougainvillea. I purchased it from another bonsai artist last year (through House of Bonsai, they brokered), and have been working on it since. I am going to bring the foliage back down and need to do some wiring, but...

    Young Japanese Black Pine suggestions

Thank you's! Hey Judy I agree and thought about removing one of the branches, but cutting would have also depended on upright/cascade so just needed help deciding :) I think I agree in pushing it towards the cascade route since it does have a lot of movement in that direction, and don't see too...

    Young Japanese Black Pine suggestions

I have had this black pine for about a year and a half now, have been doing some maintenance, and repotted it this year into the pond basket. Haven't decided to keep it going toward a cascade type of look, or should I reposition to bring the trunk back up? Thanks! ;)

    Finally! Rain all week.

We really do need the rain here in SoCal, it's been a super mild/dry Winter here and I believe even the succulents are drying up :) Doesn't help when we are hitting mid 80 degree weather here during Winter.

Where to buy an affordable Japanese red maple?

Just actually took a trip to HOB to get some soil materials, and she hasn't got her new maples in yet, those were the 'left overs' from last year. She does take good care of her material. As the previous person mentioned, liquid amber does well, and Lakewood Nursery (I noticed the other day)...

Where to buy an affordable Japanese red maple?

Japanese maples, although harder to keep up in our climate, is doable. I have a few rarer ones that have done well even though I have to leave them in 50% shade. I know a few people that will plant them in the ground, and as long as the keep them well watered, especially in summer months, they...

Where to buy an affordable Japanese red maple?

Shade like crazy in our climate, well 50% at least, the past weekend when temperatures rose, burned a few of the leaves on mine, and they were only out for a few hours. I have about 12 different, and if you are just looking for a maple to grow, you can always order from Eastfork Nursery, they...

Where is a good place to find a crab apple bonsai in southern California?

Nice, I just actually left House of Bonsai, Vicky there is really helpful. You can probably ask her and she can point you in the right direction as well as to where to start.

    Catlin Elm Slab

I think that may be about the percentage I used, it may look beefy because of the clay used to house the soil a bit. I will monitor. I figured , and could be wrong, in our SoCal weather, as its beginning to get hot (80 degrees on Sunday) that it may dry out rather quickly. Thanks again!

    Catlin Elm Slab

agreed on the odd number, I actually had purchased a few others, but it felt cramped. I made an effort to compensate for the the variation in heights by trying to plant each one slightly higher, or lower than the other. However, obviously, it didn't work out to well :)

Should I have plugged more trees? My first time, so be gentle, with the comments of course :o (put together about a month ago, so far the trees have survived and the leaves have opened, I will get more recent photos later) )

Where is a good place to find a crab apple bonsai in southern California?

As someone else mentioned, a Bougainvillea would be a good choice in our climate also. I actually purchased my biggest one through House of Bonsai (they were acting as a broker for another artist). I saw the trunk which is about 4 inches at the base, and couldn't resist. I've had to do a lot of...

Where is a good place to find a crab apple bonsai in southern California?

House of Bonsai may have some as the pervious said, I was just there yesterday, but wasn't looking for that particular tree. She's just moved a ton of Maples into the shaded area in front right now. Also you can try San Gabriel Nursery (sgnursery.com), they tend to have a lot of nice material...
