    Need some help on Elm

Most of that makes sense. The reason I was chopping shorter is that there is a buldge in the trunk. What about shortening some of the side branches? I'll look at it again tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

    Need some help on Elm

Here is the tree the other day. The photo that Bobby used must be at least several years old. One thing I arrived at is that I think I'd like to chop where marked in blue or maybe even a bit lower. Looking at it from this angle I also have some branches that circle around. I would assume that...

    Need some help on Elm

I just did some root work last year. Other than that I just let it grow. Today I pulled it out, what a mess. I just rough trimmed some overgrowth. Now I am more at a loss than ever. Seems that I have numerous branches on the same plane as each other. I also see a problem and think the apex needs...

    Keep or Toss?

First would not healing. Not sure if I should wound it again or give up. I'm going to do a flat cut this time but was seeking some input on the location.

    Keep or Toss?

I'm kinda running behind on this project but I think I'm ready for another chop to keep some movement going. I'm thinking of cutting where the red line is marked. Anyone got any input? Also after several tries I can't get the first chop to heal over. Time to give up or keep trying. Thanks for...

    Need some help on Elm

You would have to see the whole conversation to understand what went on. I'm trying to learn different ideas, methods etc. While I very much appreciated the help and told him so numerous times i was just trying to understand why the situation was not correct and if I was the only one not...

    Need some help on Elm

ChefB - Smoke had an issue with me asking for opinions when he made a suggestion. Bobby - I will watch the video and always find him interesting. I agree with the problem areas that you have addressed. The apex seems to be the one of the major issues with this tree. I agree that it lacks...

    Need some help on Elm

Thank you. I'd appreciate getting to see the photos. I've killed off a few "treasured" plants by doing extreme things so I'm a bit leary.

    Need some help on Elm

That's an interesting idea. So you have removed all of your branches at the trunk and waited for new buds all over the tree. That seems like quite a gamble. Makes some sense as they say to grow the trunk first. Don't know if I am up to that. What are you projecting for a time line to have a...

Are you talking about chopping where I have marked? I don't know where you are talking about carving. Can you show me? Thanks

    24" Plum

Our winter temperatures were close to normal then dropped drastically for a week or so. Then warmed up & dropped again. Kept same spot for all the time I've had it. Behind the garage with protection pretty much from all sides. Guess cold just set in, it's just the pits. Thanks for the input.

    24" Plum

This is what I have left this spring. Looks like trunk is fine and one branch has some life. Don't know if it froze or what. I need some as what to do with it. Just let it sit & see if anything more comes back. What do I do to start remaking the tree if this is all I have to work with? Bad...

    Need a Doc?

I'll try, maybe pull out of pot for couple of hours. Not real wet when I poke my finger into the soil but damp. Thanks for the help.

    Need a Doc?

I have this little what I assume is a maple that I grew from seed. Last year after years of growing I air layered off the top. The top is going great but the bottom has looked like this since spring. It is planted in potting soil & lava. Has done great until now. Acts like it doesn't have any...

    Need some help on Elm

Well it has been 2 years since I have had this tree out to really look at it due to other things going on. Yes the tree still is planted a bit too high in the pot, I have a "L" root which I'm still mulling over and I am growing out two lower branches in order to thicken them. I'm looking for...

    New Maple Air Layer

I was messing around and wanted to shorten a maple that I have it is about 3.5 feet tall so I tried an air layer. I know my timing is suspect. I did the work at the end of July. After 1 month I can see several substantial roots. I figure I have about a month and a half before first will start...
