    Bonsai similar to an oak.

Just a thought What about air layering a suitable branch from the actual tree on the property. You could choose a limb that mimics the main trunk. Then he would have a bonsai from the ACTUAL tree! Just a thought

To reduce or not to reduce? (crabapple)

Kiani, I also live in Orange County and bought a crab apple last week end from what is probably the same nursery.. I walked the crab apple patch for quite awhile and finally made a choice based on the foundation of the trunk movement. We dug it up and went to pot it in the workshop at the...

    grape bonsai

Since I collected them a week ago I have re-potted them in some good, well drained soil. They all seem to be doing very well and most are actually developing tiny grape clusters as well as new leaves.

    grape bonsai

I have access to an abandoned vineyard and we recently collected quite a few fantastic vines. We collected more than we needed with the idea of trading them. Some are rather large. If there was interest I could post some photos.

    Canary Island Pine

I was wondering through another very unkempt nursery when literally stumbled over this Canary Island Pine which was tipped over and concealed under a foot and a half of weeds. They sold it to me for $10.00. When I got it home and cleaned it up it looked like this. I'm still very new to bonsai...

    Mystery Fruit Tree

By the way,, the tree popped this flower overnight which may give us a little more of a clue as to what it may be. The folks at my local bonsai supply said they believed it could be an apricot.

    Mystery Fruit Tree

OK, after a lot of consternation I finally pruned and re-potted this fruit tree. I cut it back to about 2 feet high and removed all the logical branches. I left quite a bit because I'm still not sure of what style I'm going with. (Any thoughts?). I also set two guide (guy?) wires to try to...

    Mystery Fruit Tree

Looking to make a decision this weekend as I don't want to let it get into full leaf before I prune for style and re-pot. Any other input?

    Mystery Fruit Tree

The tree is badly root-bound with little soil and will need to be transplanted either way. The question, I think is, can I prune for style before I re-pot?

    Mystery Fruit Tree

I figure with the leaves coming in I'm running out of time to prune and re-pot if it's not too late already?
