Olive Bonsai from a stump? Is that a thing?

I'd love to collect the entire thing. I might hit up Amazon for a cheap mini chainsaw or the reciprocating saw like you mentioned.

Olive Bonsai from a stump? Is that a thing?

1st photo I want to collect if possible. 2nd photo was the one leaning on our neighbor's fence. And 3rd one is the cut stump in a 5 gallon pot.

Olive Bonsai from a stump? Is that a thing?

There's an clump style olive on our property. One section I cut off with a hand saw as close to the base as I could. It was leaning on the neighbor's fence. 2 hours later, sweating, aching arm, and wishing I had a chainsaw lol. There's another section with an interesting flared base that's...

He realized my mistake, and sent me a refund. I did order his 1/4 terrier bit though.

    UK to US conversion.

Hi all. This isn't exactly bonsai related, but more of an electrical question. I ordered a diegrinder tool with terrier bit from Graham Potter of the UK. He emailed saying this tool puts out 240 volts, and will not work for me in the states. Is there an adapter that could be used?

    Red Maple Bonsai?

I'm airlayering one for radial root development. And this one even has a tiny watchdog for protection ...😆 I miss seeing these in NC. I know they aren't the best, but they have the smallest leaves of our native maples.

    RMJ critique needed

Hi all. It's been some time since I've last posted. Here is my first wiring, and styling of a RMJ. I would like honest opinions, critiques, and a pot selection please. This juniper lacks a lot of deadwood. What are your opinions on adding/gluing/fastening on a piece of jin?

Are Italian Stone Pines good choices for bonsai?

I didn't expect to see this thread pop back up lol. I've sort of lost my interest in them here lately, and moved on to JBPs. Maybe it's the knobby, bulbous like trunks, and waiting on them to put out adult foliage.

    Nishiki Gawa seedlings

Or any other seedling of a cultivated maple. Do they grow true to the parent tree, or will they just produce normal green Japanese maples?

Maples. To be more specific. Spring.

    Sealing cuts

Is there any other reason why we seal cuts other than helping them to callous over faster? Does it prevent rot, infection or disease, or is that untrue? I've heard that some people do not seal their cuts at all. Is this fine?

    A Juniper Question

Speaking of California natives, has anyone ever tried Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis)? Google doesn't have hardly anything amazing to go by. I find them everywhere here. Just wondering if anyone had experience with them. With Manzanita not liking their roots disturbed, how would a colander work...

    best fertilizer

Seaweed concentrate. I mix it with a gallon of water, and it works great. Fish emulsion is okay, but don't over do it. Diluting it is a must, and even then, it still smells like putrid fish anus rotting in the sun. And then enjoy cleaning up the raccoon and cat late night party.

    Possible American Akadama source

As for it never breaking down, I've found this to be quite the opposite. Take a granule, and firmly roll it around between your finger tips. It crumbles into powder like akadama. I just bought my first bag from Glenn, and so far I'm liking it. My only complaint, it's very gritty.

    Fertilizer Cakes, Circles and Squares

I used chili pepper in my cakes too, and some critter still managed to climb up our balcony, and make an absolute mess of my drying cakes. Go easy on the fish emulsion. I stinks like hell, but the woodland creatures think it's a steak dinner.
