Help, my bonsai is drying up and dying!

I think I should re-name this thread: "How bonsai trees can make you a liar, just like taking your car to the mechanic." :p You know how your car stops making the funny noise as soon as you take it to the mechanic? Well, my tree really did look dead. Turns out it was fooling everyone! I...

Help, my bonsai is drying up and dying!

Plant dr, I will bring it Wednesday so you can see it. :) Thanks for all the kindness, everyone. And I know it is "just" a first bonsai tree...but we got it for our 30 year anniversary, since it is supposedly a 30-year-old tree...and I feel major guilt for owning it less than two months and...

Help, my bonsai is drying up and dying!

No, I don't want that to be true. You can see even in the pics that there are some branches that look better than others. If I keep the tree in the humidity tent, will it grow new roots? And maybe those branches that are healthier will survive? Maybe I'll need to prune off the dead branches...

Help, my bonsai is drying up and dying!

I think I have attached the pics. Pic #2 is looking down on the tree from the top. I do NOT want to hear that my tree is firewood. I want to save it. Do I use any large plastic bag for the humidity tent? How long do I leave it on?

Help, my bonsai is drying up and dying!

Thanks for the replies, but I just can't give it up yet. There must be something I can be doing. I have been reading about misting. So I'm spraying it, and plan to spray it several times a day. If there is even a small part of it that's alive, maybe it will come back? I just don't want this...

Help, my bonsai is drying up and dying!

Let me clarify. It's not completely brown. It's mostly brittle green with some brown. Does that make any difference? Are there are remedies that I could try to save it?

Help, my bonsai is drying up and dying!

We had to go out of town, so I arranged for someone to come on my back deck and water my juniper bonsai while we were gone. They forgot to do it, and it was very hot these past two weeks, and now my bonsai is very dry, and pieces of the green foliage are breaking off and the whole plant feels...

Leave your bonsai out when it rains a lot?

I had watered my juniper bonsai and then unexpectedly that night, it rained. Then it rained again the next day, and again the day after that. So will my tree be getting too much water? It's on my deck, but it's a really small deck and there's no overhang or anything to cover it with. It...

What is the purpose of the rock?

It seems that most bonsai trees have a rock next to them. Hubby and I have wondered about the purpose. Although we think it must be for esthetics, to make the art of the bonsai more balanced, we then wondered why there are never two or three rocks. We had some fun coming up with...

Bought bonsai roadside, need help and advice

Plant dr, thanks for the info about the local club! In the meantime, I'll try to relax and just enjoy my tree. And try not to take TOO much care of it. ;)

Bought bonsai roadside, need help and advice

I've been reading lots of different threads on this forum, and one thing that seems universal is that almost everyone talks about killing their first tree. I don't want to kill this tree. But I have never been particularly good with plants, so it is unlikely that I would be so special as to...

Bought bonsai roadside, need help and advice

Thank you all for the advice!!! I am feeling a little overwhelmed about the care and keeping of a bonsai. Judy, I checked some maps and I am in Zone 6. It gets below zero during the coldest part of winter here, but no more than about 10 below, and that is not for more than a few days. Some...

I am hoping the picture attached this time. The soda can in the picture is for scale. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Bought bonsai roadside, need help and advice

Hubby and I bought the most beautiful bonsai along the roadside yesterday, from an Asian lady selling trees out of her van. Because we are getting ready to celebrate our 30th anniversary, we chose what she told us is a 30-year-old tree. She didn't give us too much information, partly...
