I was wondering, do people ever grow tree peony as Bonsai? I was looking at one in the yard as they seem to me that they would do fine. I'm just curious about anyones attempt and success at this and as to how those huge flowers might shrink down or if they don't, how they would affect the health...

But I just found a baby mantis nest that happens to be hatching on the pool deck. My serissa now has about 5 of these little bug killers on it. Let's see who will win in the mite vs. baby mantis war. Pics later.

I absolutely loved my time there! I talked with Scott for about two hours asking so many questions I've had, and he gave great answers and seemed to really know what he was talking about! Thanks to him I figured out what I was doing wrong with my attempts at cuttings, and plenty of other things...

I plan to go there later today and am wondering what to expect. Their photos on their website look like they have some really nice trees, and the owners private collection seems to be in pretty good shape as well and he is active in exhibiting them at local gardens. Anyone know any about this...

After I made the edit I looked in a tree field guide we had in a junk room. I'm fairly sure its a common prickly ash. Do these do well as bonsai?

So I picked up some powder rooting hormone tonight, and am going to try again with fresh cuttings tomorrow. I also picked up some plastic trays a couple inches wider than the pot to act as humidity trays. I figure I'll use those in conjunction with the bag over the cuttings to keep thinks humid...

After posting that and thinking about it I went to theirs, Lowes's and Wal-Mart's websites and they all carry it! I didn't even think about that. Would them not having been treated with a rooting hormone surely off them? or is there a chance for survival?

Practice is mainly what I'm looking for. any extra little trees to practice on would be a plus, as I don't even have one yet. Haha. I followed a guide on gorwing cuttings entirely, except I didn't have any access to a rooting hormone, so here's hoping! :eek:

Parents bought a japanese maple from a nursery and I noticed it had these little branches coming off the bottom. I was wondering if I could clip them and then grow them successfully and was wondering what special care I would have to perform.
