    All aboard the Mugo train!

Thanks for the Suggestions! Just to make sure I am following. I like the movement in the first pic and my assumption on the branch to go. I am still fairly green with a few trees in various stages. You have some impressive mugo's so I am all ears! I like the trunk movement here. I would like...

    All aboard the Mugo train!

Working on getting all these old dead needles out of the way. It was pretty neglected shoved to a corner of the nursery. Any suggested coarse of action? I hosed it down and sprayed some insecticidal soap as a precaution. I will get the pot opened up and take some better pics in better light.

    All aboard the Mugo train!

I just picked up what looks like a cool mugo. I have never looked into them much so it's a good time to start. Please let me know what you think. Trunk is about 2.5". Currently it is in a large 18" container. Foliage seems a little dull. It had an old 60% off tag so I got it at a decent price...

    It's seed season.

I just came into work this morning and found a huge pile of elm seeds. I have seen lacebark, american and cedar elms in my area so if they all flower and seed at the same time then this is a mixture. I grabbed about a 1/4 of the pile that the wind whipped up. I am located in Houston TX.

    Bonsai in Houston TX

Yes, We trade short winters for long, hot humid summers. Last year or the year before we have 40 consecutive 100+ days with sweltering humidity. Its not so bad once you get used to it. Coming from Tahoe CA it took me a few years. I am new to Bonsai so I cant comment on tree varieties but just...

    A visitor in my garden.

I am by no means a mycologist but I do happen to grow lots of mushrooms. It was a good choice to remove the soft wood. Hopefully the mycelium was only focused on the deadwood. I would figure that the live wood should be ok. I like the carving, I think it works pretty well with your tree.

    Ashe Junipers

Thanks guys, I found that bonsaistudygroup link from google at home but I thought the site was down since it wouldn't load from home but here from work loads no problem. I am making the trip back out there in a month and will dig up as many good looking ones as I can since they are going to pull...

    A visitor in my garden.

I would imagine it could be hard to get rid of the mycelium in the deadwood. Can you just apply fungicide on the outside of the deadwood? Mycelium has to colonize a substrate before setting fruit so it has to have been infected for a while before hand. Some wood colonizing mushrooms can take up...

2 YO Seedling gift - Mikawa JBP

Thanks for the responses guys. I understand it is a long time away from even resembling a bonsai. Most of the seedling pictures I have seen are about 1/2 the height of mine and had a bunch of branches coming out the base so I was curious if there was something they were doing. I plan to get...

2 YO Seedling gift - Mikawa JBP

Hello Everyone, I was gifted this 2 year old seedling for Christmas. With this being my first pine at this age I am kind of trying to find some direction. Ultimately I want to induce back budding and get some branching down low. It is about 20" tall and has 1 little branch at the bottom. I...
