2015 BSC (Box Store Challenge) Update Thread

It's been quite a summer. I haven't had any time to post here at BNut :(...However, I have managed to do quite a bit of work on various trees. This one sat until two weeks ago. I just let it grow... I wanted to address the long straight section in the middle so...I fixed it...maybe more later. I...

    New Bonsai Rule

You're an artist Stacy, and a heck of a talent! When you write, you tend to stir the pot lol...doesn't bother me. I agree with you about working "crap" trees...I'd rather learn, try techniques, and make mistakes on those trees than kill a great piece of material. Keep posting your work...I, for...

    Maple leaf Diagnosis?

Actually...arsenic and chromium are no longer used in pressure treated lumber. The EPA changed that over ten years ago.

    First stab at bonsai bench

Looks good. Nice detail. I'd go for 10'...you'll no doubt end up needing more space lol. And don't worry about the color...the sun will take of that for you;)

    Automated Irrigation Systems

Watering systems for bonsai are tough but doable...I've had lots of success, but it's taken many many many hours of trial and error. I'll try to post some pics of what's worked best for me. Misters are great if they are fairly close to the tree...and you'll need at least 2 per pot. Drippers...

    Is it Halloween Yet?

I just came across this thread...COOL tree Stacey!! I just picked up a logwood off bonsai auctions...was doing some research. As usual, I appreciate your "pushing the boundaries" so to speak. Being an artist myself, I think we see things a little differently (in life) and that translates to how...

Corker with Exposed Roots or Without?

Fred...I don't know you, and I don't usually do this, but...the last image struck me. I played around with the base slightly...it feels stronger. What do you think? I really like this tree...alot:)

    Share your potting

This is a Eugenia (Brush Cherry) I repotted last week. I ground layered it last year. Amazing how much growth. The roots were pushing it out of the pot! I didn't get a shot after I pruned it.

    Collecting unknown trees

Why? Because it's what you do when you start down a new path! I've 30 more years till I'm 78. I'll make a lot more mistakes on this planet...but they are my mistakes. I'll also get a lot right...and THAT is what keeps me coming back. I love it when someone tells me..."YOU CAN'T". Really? If...

V Notching bottom of branches of San Jose

I'm considering this technique on a couple of my trees. Same question as Paradox. I did try it on a small Spruce I have and it worked brilliantly...but those notches were at the trunk. I'd like to try one on old wood further out on a straight branch (Indian Hawthorne). I really like this...
