How long can a pile of olive stumps live

The rain stopped late afternoon, so I got after it. I had to quit because it got too dark, and I couldn't see. In about an hour and a half, I left with about 12 small stumps. The largest is maybe a five-inch diameter. I left seven that were too big for me to load up. I will get some help and...

How long can a pile of olive stumps live

I got on here 10 years ago. With olive questions, a bunch of you all gave me suggestions. I put a 100lb olive stump in a pot. I kept it alive for 2 years, then let it die when I did not water it. (Note to self hook up some automatic water) I want to try this again. Can or maybe should I make...

How big is too big... Olive

It lives... now what? At first I was concerned because the only growth was coming up around the tree. Then I started to see some back growth at the base of the trunk, now a few at the top. Do I just let it grow for a few months? Do I discourage all the bottom growth? If so how? Do I...

I went to my first bonsai nursery. What was crazy is it is less than a mile away from my house and I never knew it was there. Matsuda Nursery I don't really know what I was looking at but Mr. Matsuda was great. He gave me a tour, from starter material to finished trees. Some of the very old...

    to buckeye or not?

We came across some monster trunks that must of been too big for the chain saw. I can see the latent buds you are talking about when a tree is chopped severely. It was a buckeye grave yard. There was probably 20 of these stumps. I will keep searching for some smaller material.

How big is too big... Olive

I am cheap, maybe a step up from potting soil, it is catus/palm mix. The bag lists ingredients as forest products, pumice, and sand. I am not sure of the ratio. It was $5. I guess I will see how it works.

    New to bonsai, olive question

cool pictures Paul, I spent a little more time today exploring. Most the olives are smooth and straight they are not cool and gnarly like the ones in your pictures. I think it is because everything is so overgrown. I am sure at one time it looked like those you posted. Over the past 50ish years...
