    BRT design change?

I've had this Brazilian Raintree for about 2-1/2 years and it's been doing great. The trunk and upper branches have increased their girth quite a bit but the lower branches have hardly grown. So, because of the uneven growth I'm think about removing the lower branches and training it in the...

Aerial roots - keep them or cut them

I started this Willow Leaf Ficus fifteen years ago. During that time it would occasionally form a few aerial roots. For some reason during the past couple weeks it grew twenty of them, mostly in the canopy. I was wondering if this could be a sign that there are root problems or if it just mature...

My 1st Bald Cypress - I would appreciate your suggestions.

I bought this as a pre-bonsai four months ago and it has grown like a weed since I cut it back. I have a few issues with it and I'm hoping that you can give me suggestions on how to deal with them. (1) I'm considering removing the root that protrudes from the front. It looks distracting to...

    Willow leaf ficus air layer

I think I might have made a possible fatal mistake with my Ficus Nerifolia. I wasn't happy with the surface roots so I thought that since ficus root so easily with cuttings I could layer it and develop a nicer nebari. But, after six weeks the only root that emerged was smaller than a toothpick...

New pot for Willow Leaf Ficus

I need to repot my Ficus Nerifolia but I'm uncertain what size, shape and color to purchase. I'm thinking about a cobalt blue, rectangle, shallow pot about 18" wide. The tree's dimensions are 18" tall x 24" wide x 18" deep. The nebari is 8" and the root mass is 2-1/2" deep. Before I make a...

Changed twin trunk Premna to single trunk.

I wasn't happy with the twin trunks on my Premna - it just didn't look right. So I removed one trunk. I think it looks much better. I'll let grow out for awhile to thicken up and then prune some more until I reach the point where I feel satisfied with it's appearence. Thanks to all of you who...

Ficus Nerifolia lacks the "bonsai look"

I started this Willow Leaf Ficus from a 4" cutting 14 years ago. It's current style doesn't suit me - it looks too plain. I'm not sure what to do to enhance it's "bonsai" appearance. I've looked at pictures on the web to give me ideas but I'm still undecided. I could sure use some advice. Any...

    Premna Microphylla styling advice

I hard pruned this Premna last May. As you can see it's grown a lot since then even though it's been trimmed back dozens of times (they grow like crazy). I'm not sure what to do with it now that it's filled out. It looks uninspiring to me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Brazilian Raintree slab planting

I'm considering planting my raintree on a slab this summer. Any suggestions on the type of muck to use? Also, I'm unsure which view would be the best for the front. Your comments would be greatly appeciated.

    My mystery tree!

I can't identify this tree. I grew it from seed three years ago. It's deciduous and the leaves turn pink before they drop. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
