    Satsuki Azalea ID

Then again, older photos (before I got the tree) of the flower do show flower color variations similar to hatsu kansetsu. I'm not letting the tree flower this year, but time will tell. Thanks again for the responses.

    Satsuki Azalea ID

Thanks for the photos and ID. It seems like the color variation are quite different and miyama mangetsu has a much more distinctive/sharp line between the colors. I prefer the color subtleties and prefer the hatsu kansetsu.

    Frost & Freeze Outlook Map

With the warming weather, we're probably all anxious to take our trees outside, even the less hardy ones. My trees (mostly/recently repotted) are all out in a portable greenhouse as the night lows are predicted to be above freezing. Unfortunately one night, it dipped to 26F (local...

There were quite a few Larches, most of which came from North of the border. Do you have a basic description of it?

Bonsai Album app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

I'm already very happy with the app! I want to see it even better :D I would link photos from logs to bonsai as I add logs regularly and the bonsai entry remain mostly unchanged. Since each log is link to a bonsai, possibly consider just an option to "Show in Photos" for each log photo...

Bonsai Album app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Thanks for the explanation on how to add more than 2 photos per log entry. It's an extra step, but seems to work fine. Per the photo library request, I don't mean iOS photo library, but each individual Bonsai Info photos within the app. Not sure if it makes sense, but what I'm hoping to...

Bonsai Album app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Andrew. Is it possible or can you make it possible to link photos in the logs to the main entry photo library? I want to avoid adding duplicate photos. Also, can you include an (+) option to add more than 2 photos per log entry? Thanks! Very helpful app, btw. Thanks

My tree from the Joshua Roth New Talent Contest

Stacy, it was great meeting you and I'm really glad you took an original approach to the styling and design of the tree. Hope you had fun and had a smooth trip back. We're getting hit with frost on the nights following the event. Chau

Preordained Death of Satsuki Azalea with Deadwood

Thank you everyone for your wonderful insight. Rob, I totally agree with you. I purchased this tree as a learning experience and it will prove to be just that. Selling it off would push the problem to another unexpected victim and I'm not comfortable with that. I'm moving back to your area...

Preordained Death of Satsuki Azalea with Deadwood

Rob! I wanted a second opinion, but not many have experience with this situation. I'm tempted to keep the tree and see what happens; I'm sure the information will be helpful for future azalea enthusiasts

For the Love of Bonsai, Saratoga Springs, NY Sept 12-15

The venue is 2 doors down from where I work so it'll be hard to miss this event. Looking forward to see your infamous tree there, Saw, and you'll have some competition for the new talent challenge (not me though, not yet :p). Good luck!

Preordained Death of Satsuki Azalea with Deadwood

I recently acquired a beautiful imported Satsuki azalea styled similar to the attached image with the first and only brand forming the entire foliage mass and the trunk line above the branch is mostly dead for future carving. The tree is vigorous and healthy. In a recent workshop with American...

    Japanese Maple Leaves Wilting

Sly. My bet is on the recent heatwave (90F+) and super summer sun from the past few weeks. I noticed slight wilting on my Amur and Japanese as well and I keep mine under 50% shade cloth with daily misting and watering. There's a direct correlation between sun and heat and when both are at...

WTB: Bonsai Styles of the World by Charles S. Ceronio

Hi all, There is a second edition, but that too is out of print. I have contacted the author directly and he mentioned that a reprint is in order, but others have told me that he also said the same thing many years ago. It seems to be a great book, but difficult to find at the moment.

    Satsuki Azalea ID

Hi everyone. My first post. I purchased a Satsuki Azalea last winter under the variety "hatsu kansetsu" meaning "first snow on the mountain top." It's supposedly an old and cold-tolerant mountain variety. Since I can't seen to find any info on the said variety and seeing the tree in bloom...
