Got a new plant as a gift from Ikea... looking for some tips on styling... Not sure what I should make the front...

I live in Piedmont, CA 94610. I think the roots are a bit exposed, so I covered them with soil. I removed all the completely dead pines. I'm really uncertain as to if I should be trimming at all, since it's such a small pine.
