So lets review some WH quotes to get us up to speed. Dinner plate nebari seems too man made and distracts from image. It seems to be a race to see who can create the most fused nebari. So I ask WH "How do they do it?" Similar to form they use for fusing seedlings together.....not sure...

When Nut first posted this tree, I took notice with real interest for the first time of Ficus Microcarpa. There is an importer around the corner from me that gets them in sometimes. Very large and I really never pay much attention. They do not have this root spread that I can remember. So I went...

OK, sound the horns. This is what I was shown as the technique used to arrive at this. This Ficus Sp. is in Thailand or some place West of where we live. That is all I can tell you.

Do you know how they make bamboo grow square? They build a box frame and slide it down on the shoot when it is young and tender and as the bamboo grows skyward it is formed into the box and comes out square. I think this defice works on the same principle. Looks like torture to me.

OK, so where were we. Some of the ficus were grown from cuttings or layers. They too have a distinct root spoke. But this still is not the same 'look' I see in the tree from Siam. Just a little background info to help understand the secret from the West.

These are root spreads that belong to ficus that belong to me.

Here are some examples of shallow container grown 'natural' root bases. Natural would be a root base that was managed to some degree, more than others, from a seedling sized stock plant. As the tree developed, roots can be sorted out to spoke or they can pile up and left to their own devises...

A couple of you are on the verge of cracking the code. As a matter of fact this might not be new news but you guys are pretty sharp....well most of you. Basicaly all you need is a healthy fig, a sharp cutting tool, and some wedges. The more taters you split, the more root production.

I wanted A baby's butt smooth fin. plus I use a more fluid mix. I do not believe in sealants.

Here are my modified figs (nerifolia). I decided to do only eight out of the ten available spaces. I will discuss this later when I know it is safe. These figs are mine and there are eight of them. Ask me how I know?

It's time for all the hard questions. Have I become an unreliable source for information, an unexpected source for BB gun plinking and flame wars? Do I divulge my source? If I do there is a chance his theory will be hammered out of the gate. And the reprocutions, it could break his spirit and my...

    JBP and a cheap plug.....

Very nice Harry! That is a tree I would like to move up to someday. Lack of a Coke can is the only demerit or you would have a perfect 10.

BonsaiNut introduced this amazing tree in a thread called "Nabari Development in Siam". There was no further information because the site was in Thai, but the photos are self explanatory. This statement was paraphrased by me. Seeing this amazing nebari was fascinating to me. See below, this...
