Help with trunk chop on 4 possible trees that are currently over 10 ft tall.

Here's an update. Everything is sending out tons of new growth already! I also dug down below the roots a full shovel length all the way around but left them all in ground. Gallery: http://imgur.com/a/nhvJb Too lazy and sweaty to sort out the gallery right now.

Help with trunk chop on 4 possible trees that are currently over 10 ft tall.

I've picked these 4 out of thousands of trees of similar age/size. I am going to try all 4 because I have been daydreaming about this collection method for years and am ready to experiment. I agree with you though, Maple 3 is my favorite. How far up would you make the cut? Thank you for...

Help with trunk chop on 4 possible trees that are currently over 10 ft tall.

Hey Guys, I had the opportunity today to roam a friends densely wooded property with permission to dig up whatever I'd like. I found 3 maples and one other unknown tree with shoots near the base. Link to the album: http://imgur.com/a/OahjV I've never done this with mature-ish trees like...

Yeah, we're making plans to exterminate the grandfather tree. I cant fight the urge to experiment with the younger trees.

Ailanthus Altissima - Tree of Heaven - Ghetto Palm

Thanks, I noticed this too. As far as I know, the chemicals only transfer via the root systems. (a couple bushes died out nearby)

Ailanthus Altissima - Tree of Heaven - Ghetto Palm

Herro. I have a big ol' tree of heaven in the back of my property. It has recently sprung up a TON of little seedlings, or possibly suckers from the root system. The thing about this tree is how fast it grows. I have some that I cut down to the ground two years ago and then forgot about, and...

First Juniper - Old Gold - Nice Nursery Find (I Hope)

I appreciate the input. The tree has been on my deck for over a month and I've played with a lot of ideas. The bend in the trunk is complimented by the direction of the nebari, so my goal is to have 3 or 4 angled pads 'pointing' in the same direction. Whether or not this will end up...

    tiny barberry

So Id like to do a very tiny tree. Maybe 3 or 4 inches. I got this little barberry for 4 bucks. It has a lot of nice branches to work with. I think i have an idea but id like to get some opinions first. Is it okay to clip the thorns off?

First Juniper - Old Gold - Nice Nursery Find (I Hope)

Ann Arbor Michigan Bonsai and Penjing gallery - grand opening

Grand opening was yesterday. (Sunday May 19th) My expectations for this (been in anticipation for about 5 years) were highly exceeded. Keep an eye out for the show-stopper uprooted style cypress. Also, the way I uploaded, the bottom of the page are the trees at the entrance of the exhibit...

Really need help with this white pine styling.......

Wow, I don't know any 70 year olds that can format forum text to bold, let alone find/register to a forum to begin with. I'd say you're doing pretty well. @original post: I would probably try to air layer the top off. that way, even if it isn't successful, at least you still have the...
