    I don't have much experience, but wouldn't it grow faster if the soil was better? I mean from the pictures the soil seems to have poor drainage.

    salad drainer as training pot?

    as anyone used a salad drainer as bonsai training pot? something like the picture attached. it seems to have very good drainage conditions, on the inner part, and some extra air between the outer part. With some added holes on the bellow outer part so does not retain water inside.

    Hello, I have a ficus that was a gift similar to this one(space between the bulging roots) . What if one put this huge roots under soil for long time? would the plant gain extra roots that fill the gap between them? Or even cut back the roots later so the space between disappear. regards
