So, I found this amazing tree...

I would be in straight away and offer to replace it with a new tree or shrub. The amount of times i see things ripped out after thinking it would make a good bonsai. You might find they don't like the thing and would like all the grass being smooth so you could turf it for them.

Would you use these Japanese Maples?

I can't see all of tree 1 , but i would keep tree 2 as a garden tree. Sometimes its best to use what you have and make the best out of it. That is such a good tree already and sometimes you need pieces like this to break up the space. You could dome the top more to go with the shapes of the...

    Hawthorn

I bought this in an auction . It was like it was in the first pic. I think the top had died back and the owner and then sprouted from the bottom . It was £40. I love getting material like this as i don't have to put the effort in of digging it and waiting for it to recover. Here is the pot...

Hi John , thanks for that . Yes i have come a long way . Before i found the internet i was just thrashing around in my garden on my own . I hadn't seen a real bonsai up till then . I do practice a lot so i'm glad that you can see the progress. Yes i shape gardens so i get to work on trees all day.

    Juniper chinensis 'Old Gold'

Yes keep at it , it is practice that gets you there in the end. We have all gone through this at the beginning. I sometimes cringe when i look back at what i did to some of the material i got my hands on.
