    Wooden Pots?

What do you think you will do for a bottom? You could probably find a pot that will fit in the hole and cover the edge of the pot with moss if you use it in a show.

    iPhone app leafsnap

Just thought I'd let you guys know about an iPhone app I used this summer to help learn my local trees around here. You can place a leaf on a white background and take a pic and it will give you a list of trees with pics of the leaves in the order of closest resembling the one in the picture...

Caught a bonsai bug, went crazy the end of this summer. New to forum!

The burgundy colored one might be a type of dogwood. Not the normal shape of a dogwood but close in color. Let me know if you find out what it is because I have a little one the same size that was by the grill.

    Cement Pot

Thanks for this. I was going to try the papercrete meathod where it was shredded newspaper soaked for a couple days then mixed with cement for a light weight concrete. This seems a lot easier. I asked my wife for a bag of cement for Christmas and the look she gave me was priceless.

Ryan what do you use for soil? I moved my ficus to a bonsai soil this summer. Should I not have and keep it in organic soil?

    Mesh for pot holes

I water every other day mostly except if its real hot then its everyday and since I was worried about it I'm always watching the water as it drains. It seems after the soil gets soaked it drains as fast as I pour it in. This was my first year using the drywall tape but if it does as well next...

    Mesh for pot holes

Glad this thread came up because I've got drywall tape in everything I've repoted so far and was a little worried if it would hold up. I use a small square of duct tape on each side to keep it from moving. Also it has a glue on it to help it stick to the drywall but figured it would wash out...

    Rock Slab Source?

Hey Ed, I think I've seen a stone wall pot on here. Might have to try one. I'm in Johnstown. And the slate I've got a few hundred of them and was thinking of useing a couple to plant in the ground on top of. Looks good as a slab. Seems they might be a little fragile especially when wet. Do you...

    Is sunlight needed in winter?

I've got them on the garage floor and there is a window but no chance of any direct light. Thanks and I'm checking for moisture and have only watered once since I've moved them in. Might give each one a snowball today.

    Is sunlight needed in winter?

That's what I thought but I've also heard that the pines in the mountains are under snow for months during winter without seeing the sun and evergreens don't store enough energy to regrow all there foliage at once in the spring

Caught a bonsai bug, went crazy the end of this summer. New to forum!

Welcome to b-nut. Everyone's going to ask you to update your info with the zone your in. I think some of these trees need to be dorment during winter which means they will be better in the garage or shed or outside in a mulch bed. Might want to get them used to cooler temps slowly from the heat...

Best time of year for ?

So I got it all wrapped up nice and pretty and wired it,flexed it around for a couple minutes to stretch the fibers a bit, took both hands on one side and both thumbs pushing on the other side and broke it in half. Surprised how easy it broke. Far from ruining the tree though there's still a...
