    Soil thrown out of pot

I noticed little seedling weeds that were growing in my bonsai disappearing. 1 mousetrap and dollop of peanut butter later, I found that a field mouse was to blame for the gardening. Maybe you've got a mouse.

    New Guy

Although you may never achieve a traditional bonsai form, I think it's just as fulfilling to care for a tree you like, and treat like a bonsai

Caught a bonsai bug, went crazy the end of this summer. New to forum!

What's wrong with the tractor? Lol. I'm still no mechanic! Welding is going great though. I've earned a vertical flux-core certification, and suspiciously failed a vertical D1.1 stick certification along with the entire rest of the class, who all failed for similar looking porosity. It...

Caught a bonsai bug, went crazy the end of this summer. New to forum!

You know stiple, I really couldn't tell you. I know my buddy grew a fairly immense amount of reefer with them once in his closet, and the plants seem to be liking them. The mystery tree's leaves catch a brown edge sometimes, but that might be something with the nutrients it's got. No more...

Caught a bonsai bug, went crazy the end of this summer. New to forum!

Basically just made good friends with a teacher that's got a farm and plenty of space for stuff. Gonna cart them over there for the winter and probably give his wife one.

Caught a bonsai bug, went crazy the end of this summer. New to forum!

Preparing to winter my trees! I've finally got something to do with them, and they've (nearly) all made it this far. I'm hoping the fact that they were all pretty young sprouts will lend to this working out. When one of you mentioned a mulch bed, did you mean to plant them there exposed...

It's not going to stay that small for long, but that would be awesome!

What do I do with this?

I faced a lot of negativity with my starter trees, too. Don't give up, is my advice. You're going to have to let it winter outside or in a cold garage, but i recommend at least trying Kellys advice. Clip the top off, and let it regenerate. Try that again next spring. And enjoy it!

Advise on plant type for a vertical multi-potted arrangement

Lantana is a great idea. a typical 12 inch tall bush is gonna have snaky roots at least 20 inches long, in my experience. Just feed them into extra pots, maybe score them a little or something to stimulate new topgrowth. Wisteria is awesome too, it grows several inches a month if well-stoked...

I understand your logic, but I take that as a given when I approach a forum, and like to try to assume everyone else is at least as smart as I am.

To EVERYONE ON THE INTERNET who resorts to the "just search it" response.... If you don't like communicating with other people, what are you doing on a forum? Do you really understand the concept?

    White powdery mold

Definitely don't pick all those things off, that will make your tree very sad I think :P And hard water, unless its really bad, shouldn't harm your trees. I water my trees with a waterbottle with a pinhole in the lid, and when I use anything besides good distilled water, it builds up in...

    Question about trees

Given your youth, I suggest finding a small landscaping outfit to work with in the spring and summer! (Might pay you under the table- cough) I collected all my specimens from the refuse heap- torn out of peoples' flowerbeds and replaced. I'm deeply enjoying my Lantana- very storied root...

    summer heat/watering

I just use a glass or plastic bottle with the top cut off, filled with water above soil line, and titrated in by a strip of cotton fabric. Soak the cloth, place it in the edge of the pot, and watch the water drip in over a few hours

That's really cool! I appreciate that, buddy. I was just in Pittsburgh last week, but I dunno when I will be back. If I do plan to come up, I'll definitely shoot you PM. Thanks! And yeah, I'm really not trying to rebel against nature, just bend and stretch a little :)

Caught a bonsai bug, went crazy the end of this summer. New to forum!

I could have, but I collected all these specimens, and that's kind of special. Plus, I accept the challenge knowingly. If my plants do die, I'm not really out of anything, and I've got so many going, I can afford to lose a few. I am attending a welding certification class, and am going to use...

    rooting gels

Any time I see anyone, on any forum, telling someone to google or search for something that is indeed relevant to the forum, it really challenges me to understand what that persons motivations are. Forums are for discussion...if you don't want to discuss, save yourself the keystrokes, eh?
