Hi Everyone, I have a black pine thats taking a turn for the worst. No work has been done to it and its been following the same regime as the rest of the black pines in the same stage of development, same soil, water etc they are all doing fine. The only thing i can think of is i left it...

    Trident Maple Repot

Thanks for all the opinions. i ended up getting rid of all the long long roots (cutting them down) that i had marked and left the circled section. I'll target this next year once its recovered from a total soil change and some heavy root work. It mostly likely would have survived but this is a...

    Trident Maple Repot

Hi Guys, I've had this trident sitting around for awhile in some bad soil , so it was time to give it a little root work and a good repotting. I gave the roots a fair cut back but im in two minds as to how farther i should have gone. I placed it upon a tile to help radial root growth...

Second opinion on raw trident maples

Hi All, So i grabbed the first one and i talked the guy down in price. here is a better shot of the lower trunk which part of the double trunk should be removed in everyones opinion? i am going to let it grow out for a bit and create some layers before doing a trunk chop its looks like...

Second opinion on raw trident maples

Thanks for the reply Yeah they would all be getting the chop the root spread isn't too bad on all 3 but as pointed out i would most likely avoid the 3rd one due to the reverse taper, it would be a much larger chop / more time to start from the very first branch.

Second opinion on raw trident maples

Hi, Thanks for the replies $120 AUD so $100 US which is not too far off he mark around these parts where there is essentially either seedling or close to finished pieces. #1 was my pic of the bunch its slightly thinner then a coke can at the base #2 i was mostly concerned with how...

techniques for thicker trunks on japanese maples

Hi Thanks for the replies much appreciated. @MACH5 yeah i shouldn't have defoliated but i've been told (rightly or wrongly?) and seems to be common practice where i'm at this is done to induce a 2nd set of leaves that tend to be more resistent to leaf burn? they most likely left the part out...

    JBP where to next

Hi Guys, @ patrick wow mumma! nice going , interesting idea that could work and would also avoid the whorl all together, but i would imagine this would need to be done slowly i.e cut back the branches and remove them 1 by 1 over time before removing the whorl. I guess i could cut back to the...
