    Cork Bark Elm

Well ive really just let the tree dictate its growth with this one. The sacrifice branch is now a lot larger but hasnt began improving taper. I realise my earlier drawing had the apex heading left but the tree has gone right, not really sure what to do really. It does have a great spreading root...

ROR Fig - Trash or more time?

The top part of the rock should stay exposed for some time. This tree is 9 years from seedling, you've got time 👍

Fantastic example of elegance, very nice. Here is a Chinese Elm after its first spring trim. I didnt realise until after the shot there are two snails in the picture.

    Small Nerifolia

Still working with that awkward first branch but i enjoy the tree as a whole. My only willow leaf to drop all its leaves to mark the beginning of spring.

ROR Fig - Trash or more time?

Had to get this tree into some fresh mix this year, rebuilding the apex a bit tighter this time. I like the look of the roots since the last update but the rock is slowly disappearing.

    The Tree Thread

Arrived home from work after 2 weeks to find this Willow Leaf decided to shed all its leaves for the beginning of Spring. Nice colours in the sun, I started this tree from a cutting a few years back.

For me I think it may just be the 2D image. Ive attached some more photos to show there is movement, mostly subtle but its not completely straight. Photography is not my strong point and i generally find myself feeling content with a tree, then after photographing it i pick it to pieces and...

Should I mix Osmocote in the soil at repotting time?

I mix osmocote in my pots after the trees are tied in. We regularly have summer temps in the mid 30's celsius with the occasional 40+. They seem to last longer this way without all exploding at once on a hot day

    New ficus bonsai

Nice! From what i can see it looks like a Green Island/Green Mound Fig. These tend to grow as a more low lying shrub than massive tree so trunk size is impressive. I like the idea of having 2 apex, i think you need to define the height between the two though. The one on the right probably needs...

You should be able find pumice. I use zeolite because its easy to source and cheap but I would happily swap it for lava/akadama. As far as bark or any organic substrate, i like the radiata pine bark as it doesnt break down quick. Its sold as an orchid bark out of New Zealand, really nice and...

    Triple Trunk Tiger Bark Ficus

Nice. Any plans to pull that second trunk in tight and let it fuse? Looks like 2 trees that want to be 1

    Chinese Elm Direction

I had used Diatomite and pine bark for a long time but the last batch I got was quite soft so decided to change it up. Majority of my trees have been in a mix of pumice, zeolite and radiata pine bark for just over a year now and seem to be liking it. In the end, what you use all comes down to...

Another year, canopy has become a bit more dense. Secondary trunk grew some branches but not really ideal to style. Cut back, maybe this year it will develop more. Not a great photo, its raining, but the bark is starting to really exfoliate and bring out some nice contrasting orange colouration.

    Big Zelkova

This tree was very late to bud out last season, about mid summer which was concerning. I almost had big problems with my soil, turns out the last batch of diatomite I purchased was quite soft and breaking down to mush. Previous batches have not broken down in 5 or so years. Once the buds did pop...

    Torulosa 'Hollywood' Juniper

@Bonsai Nut i really shouldve taken some before pics prior to working on the tree. Over the 4 years between updates i was able to get rid of all the old potting mix and get it into a more larger size substrate and the growth has been much better. Substantial thickening occurred in the branches...

    Torulosa 'Hollywood' Juniper

This tree is one of those back of the bench types. I pulled it down today and studied the tree for awhile. Decided to try and simplify the design, some large branches were cut off so more deadwood should be beneficial for the design. Still a long ways to go before it gets more regular attention...

    Small Tiger Bark Fig

This one is starting to fill out now and make more sense. First left branch has to come down in Summer. Still unsure of the pot combination, I've gotten used to it but would welcome other opinions if its the wrong fit?

    Ficus 10 month Progression

Mid winter update, better late that never. Lots of greenery on the tree, waiting for that warm weather to push new growth. Plan is to defoliate and wire in Summer

    Semi-cascade Juniper

Im thinking the right side needs to be shortened a touch to accentuate movement to the left. The apex is basically being regrown with new shoots, not enough substance to wire fully. I've gotta leave the excuses behind, 3-5 days of painful torture coming up to bring the old foemina back to glory...
