    Acer Negundo #3

I don't care what people say, that is a substantial trunk and I think they are great material to mess around with. I look at these, Acer macrophyllum and others with bigger leaves as a challenge. And at the very least you have a tree that gets nice yellow foliage and eventually a cool looking...

    Acer palmatum seedling hardiness

So I went through this maple phase years ago, I needed every one I saw that was unique. Many years later and after losing many trees, I have found the ones that do well even in the Southern California heat. Around the same time, I would order seeds from all over the world, and most would...

Pines that don’t require winter dormancy

I live in the IE so there's not much in the way of chilling here. Anywhere from 150 to 450 hrs under 45 degrees. Then you get the 100 plus summers. Anything close to alpine needs some shade protection. Japanese Black Pine does well once you get the watering down. Ive had great luck with Pinus...

    Bristlecone pine

So many people are going to say how slow this grows and isn't worth it, but there's a charm to growing your own from seed. Just don't over water. Maximum aeration is needed once it gets a little more mature.

    Alexmacrophyllums Japanese Black Pine contest

So I decided not to stratify in the fridge. I understand it would have most likely been a higher and more uniform germination rate but I just threw them in 100 -2 " pots, and the rest in an anderson flat. Some are sprouting. It has been an a warm winter with hardly any rain and temps haven't...
