I am finally settled in to our new home in Phoenix Arizona. Getting my bonsai benches back up and going and have been driving some dirt roads looking at some of the Scrub Oaks. I was wondering what people look for when collecting oaks. Do you want them to already be loose in the soil? Rooted...

    Boxwood Tips

I ended up with a boxwood from my local clubs raffle this last month. It seems to be in good health, healthy green leaves, new growth extending up from the foliage pads/pom-poms. I have left it on my bench as I got it, let it get use to the cooler temps at my home, game it a little organic...

Fusing trunks with Willow Leaf Ficus

Wow that is amazing and makes a very interesting contrast. Have you see buds grow out with any of the white foliage anywhere else on the tree. I might have to try that as well just because it could make for something interesting. Your comment makes for a really good point and something to...

Fusing trunks with Willow Leaf Ficus

I have a couple of willow leaf ficus that I have been slowly growing up with the hope of combining them into a single fused trunk tree. I was wondering if anyone else has had luck with this and how they went about doing it. My long term goal is to take my two trees placing them over a rock with...

Thanks Grimmy, I have seen it used with carnivorous plants for nitrogen was the idea. I didn't know if anyone had tried this with some of our tropical species. I might have to try it with some ginseng ficus from my local Walmart.

    Ficus bonsai

I would probably get it into a window or get a bright CFL light over it and let it grow for a good 6 months and see how what the tree offers you for back budding. Maybe start a regular fertilizing routing and just give it time. Maybe defoliate the top leaves by a third, keeping some leaves on...

    2 branches cascading?

I think I would not cut either off till I did some general clean up of the tree and foliage. Maybe start by doing some basic wiring and setting your pads on the top, then see how the cascade branches fit into your design. Your wife found you a very interesting tree.
