    How to prevent bonsai theft?

yeah, here either. Just need to lock the dog out of the area covered with the detectors. WHich invites the neighbours'cat and you find yourself at 1AM looking at a surprised cat in your nightdress.

Newb question about potential in tree, to buy or not to buy a lemon

nope. Most of the better ones in Europe, located in the Netherlands. Also look at bonsai.de I know bonsai dusseldorf was shipping trees during Corona. You have Jack Rost bonsai in Poland who has A LOT or stock. Reaching out to him directly will get you a better idea (Or.. Just go there!)...

Japanese Maple Cuttings. When to Chance Repotting.

why? Impatience kills, certainly cuttings. I see 0 reason to repot now, except your own curiosity. Let the leaves drop. Your climate, you probably have budbreak again in February? Leave them alone till then. When buds swell, repot. That is my recommendation. Even though I often am early...

    Weighted ornaments to bend branches

Hm.. I prefer the bends to be right at the trunk, as tight as possible. What you seem to be creating is upwards loops with the branch then going down?

    Jade Forest — Developing

I let my jades go dry for winter. Store them in an unheated room, standing at 12c / 50F for winter in semi-darkness seem to do just fine. They ARE bare come spring though. Sop no development over winter.

    Rooting Whole Japanese Maple Branches

They are low places in the terrain where water accumulates in case of precipitation exceeding the absorption capacity of the soil. If these low places have a dip with sort of retaining walls the water will stand still, and we refer it to a lake. Often hoewever they form lines in the soil (due...

    Spindle with singular seed pods?

Hi All, in my growbed I have for the last years grown out a spindle tree. Not sure where I got it, I think I may have taken a handfull of seeds once from a shrub and planted those. in any case... I was cleaning up the growbed a little and noticed that this year it had set fruit. Oddly...

    Large root ball and burlap

I do a repot as I would in spring. Exception might be for the very early stages of rootball development where you might go all extreme removing 95% of the rootmass. But.. Temps are low now and humidity is high, where I live.

    Large root ball and burlap

absolutely; that is the whole point of repotting. Else you could just drop it in a container and add a bag of compost and be done. Right now the tree is strong, loads of young roots by the looks of it (so not freshly dug, but gug earlier, burlapped and sunk into the ground at the nursery, then...

    Large root ball and burlap

considering how many roots have growth through the burlap, I would not worry too much about repotting. In my climate would do it now myself, and plant in a large container for the first few years as developing. I would make sure it remains frost-free for the next 6-8 weeks and it should be fine...

    Epos' Japanese Maples

Airlayering something that has just been separated as a layer is not a great idea. It takes a lot of energy from the plant, energy which would be better spent building the new rootball I would say. (Ignoring the risk of breaking the young roots on freshly potted up layer)

Is it appropriate to show a tree in a kintsugi repaired pot?

There is a whole story told by the display. The display typically indicates the season coming up, and has accents showing a link to the landscape it occurs in naturally with potentially a scrol with a bird or landscape to complete the story. Once you start reading up on bonsai and displaying...

Winter, but grow light; Reduce Fertilizer?

ehm.. not sure what you have there as grow lights, but I doubt this gives the sort of light that sunlight provides. Looking at the tree I do think it is healthy, but it certainly is not thriving and pushing with vitality, as it shoudl at the end of summer. Fertilizer is really only needed if...

    Deciduous tree dormancy?

I normally talk about the lows for the day. Which in my climate means.. Most of late fall, winter and early spring I will have night temps drop below freezing, and daytime often popping to a few degrees above freezing intermingled with drizzle and rainstorms. Most years the wind turns east at...
