First I've never dug up a tree. This crepe myrtle is in my backyard. It pretty tall. How difficult would it be to dig up? Should I cut it down first and wait a year to dig?

No freezing temps since I got the tree and it was previously keep in a greenhouse at plant city bonsai.

Recently got my first Trident. I repotted it in a well draining soil. The leaves look a bit sad. The tree gets a good amount of morning sun and afternoon shade.

I have spag moss, so could i do what Drew was saying without re-potting? Cut around the base to encourage root growth cover with spag? Do I just cut a small line? A small V indention? What is this process called?

I will do this next time i re-pot. I used all the soil mix i got yesterday. My goal this summer is to create my own soil. I also gave air layering a try on a few different trees. A Sweetgum Maple, Bradford pear, and what i believe to be a dogwood. If they work awesome, if not oh well. Try...

My main goal is not to kill it. Im still trying to get the basics down, i just want to watch her grow for now. I will be posting lots of pictures to this thread tracking progression and to get as much feed back as possible.

As I am so new and still learning i did not know that keeping the nebari buried would help them develop. Next time i re-pot i will cover in soil. Thanks for the advice.

I picked up this Trident from Plant City Bonsai yesterday. I feel it has a lot of potential. I like the taper and the nebari. I repotted into a slightly larger pot and I'm just got to let it grow and see what happens. Any suggestions would be great. image hosting over 5mb screen shot...
