    House Money Junipers

I think for me. The biggest result and pay off to buying and working these trees, was the reps they gave me. Reps at wiring, creating shari, general deadwood, repotting. Limitations to timing, limitations to undesired species, limitations to instant creation that only time can create. It's...

    House Money Junipers

Haha! Funny you say! I’ve sold all of the junipers I styled on this thread. I’d have to look up the prices for each, but the most I made on one of the Sabina junipers was something around $550. Total made after selling off all of the trees was above $1000. Certainly my time was the biggest...

    #118: Juniperus Chinensis "Shimpaku"

I like the idea Orion. It’ll take a few years to get the trunks and pads to really work together, but it’ll be worth the time and harder cutback to set that structure early. Following along for sure!

hahahaha! my thoughts exactly. When I read the first post, I could hear BNUT from 10 years ago saying "hold my beer"! Regardless. A wealth of information then and a wealth of information now. You just can't mistake frankness with meanness. Thick skin goes a loooong way. After all this...

What is the easiest and what is the most challenging genus?

New Mexico Olive (Foresteria Neomexicana) - native variety that grows prolifically in the wild. Beautiful multi season interest in its leaves and flowers and berries. Great intrigue in bark color and texture as well. All of my efforts so far have shown me that they do not like pot culture...

    Stewartia Monadelpha

Great fall/winter image Bri. Love the strategically place dry leaves and winter color accent. My favorite part about your trees Brian is how easy it is to lose true scale in your images. I think this tree is big, but you just can't fully tell. One of the things that make bonsai so cool as...

    ROR Siberian Elm

Here's this tree now. I want to keep it ultimately. Ive parted with quite a few other trees lately, But I like this one and think with the right interventions it can be really cool down the road. My plan is to carefully clear the roots under the rock the tree currently sits on and attach this...

    More big elms

Haha. No, it’s just the contrast of young Siberian elm bark on extremely barked up and old Siberian elm trunk. Gonna be a while before they get close to matching up in tone and texture

    Rudd’s Rocky Mountain #2

Yeah I think you could easily dub this tree “moose”

    More big elms

The trunks are so barky for sure. It’s going to take a VERY long time to get the branches to that level.

    More big elms

This one is going to be a great tree. But I do need to address the big chop with more intention starting next year . I need to carve out the dead wood and possibly fill with putty for the callous to turn in.

    More big elms

These are coming along. Many more years to go. I may put them in the ground for a few years next year to really amplify the new leader.

    Rudd’s Rocky Mountain #1

PT on his latest podcast with Jeremiah talked a lot about the scale as in size, with Native juniper foliage, beyond what you mentioned @Scriv. Itowigawa, kishu and the like stay looking nice for much longer. The scale thing seems over the top to me, especially on really big trees. A shohin...

    Rudd’s Utah Juniper #1

I found Sabina foliage to be the same way. So dam sensitive.

    Rudd’s Utah Juniper #1

It's probably larger than I realize? What's the trunk diameter? Great work though Rudd. Should make another great addition to your garden.

    Piñon pine #2

Yeah cutting that yarrow back made a huge difference. I need to pluck that out of the pot next spring at the very least.

    Piñon pine #2

I think you’re probs right. Needs to settle in for a few years anyways before I make another repot decision.

    Cork Bark Elm Progression

This tree is giving the vibe of Sergio’s arakawa. Nice work Sal.

    Piñon pine #2

could probably use a bit more of an old needle clean up. I put some wire on this tree though. I also hacked back the wild yarrow, exposing the pussytoes. Thinking I may put this tree in an actual pot come spring. I may not though, in order to let this tree gain vigor, considering it was...

    My neighbors tree fell over…

At what temps do you bring in your tropicals?

My ficus come inside when night time temps drop below 40 consistently at night and back out when temps go above 40 at night in the spring.

    My neighbors tree fell over…

To be fair to my neighbor. This tree was alive all last year and to start the spring. He had an arborist out and everything who said it would be ok. But then again, cottonwoods are notoriously soft and weak trees. Just look at this “root system” almost non existent. Whatever growth it...

    My neighbors tree fell over…

Was not a small tree. Feeling very grateful for the outcome. Also, my neighbor conveniently doesn’t have to pay the thousands of dollars to bring it down carefully. 😅
