It had been raining for like a month, so no watering for a while. Once it stopped I let it get a little dry then have been watering about once a day on average, sometimes twice when hot and skipped one day last week. Trying to water when the middle starts to get dry, not just the surface.

What is causing this? It has been all nice and green all season until just recently.

Well, some updates. I pinched off the brown on the shimps and am fertilizing a bit more, no more recurring brown tips. It's been raining like crazy the last few weeks in Houston and the trident has some brown tips now, what is the culprit here?

Most of my stuff is in 6" grow pots in a mix of turface, pine bark, granite, shale, and some lava. It holds water well but I guess it will be alright. it stays moist naturally for over a day, but there isn't any standing water and lots of holes in the bottom for drainage, hopefully it's okay...

I sifted some pumice thru a 2.5mm screen. Is there any use for what falls thru? Shohin or any other use? Should I just add it back together? How about turface that fell thru the screen (assuming removing the dust)?

I went ahead and repotted. Will check for spider mites as well. Here are the roots, do they look okay?

If it was outside in this houston weather of late, its probably overwatered since it has been raining for what seems like 3 months.

As a follow up, this little experiment was unsuccessful. I left these alone all winter and this spring the top half above the layer of one of the junipers browned off and died I guess. Will snap some pics tonight to figure out what was wrong (besides just the media used).
