    Telperion Farm on fire

Everyone, keep Chris and Lisa in your thoughts. The fires in Oregon seem to have overtaken Telperion.

    Resolution?????

Usually ;-) I try to limit unsolicited advice but I can't hold back any longer ;-) This year I have seen numerous root over rock or saikei plantings from newer people to bonsai and they covered up the interesting parts of the rocks! My resolution this year -is a mission to get the word out to...

    What is bonsai?

Eric's thread was hijacked but there were some good points to expand! What is bonsai? When and why does the artist enter the equation that makes it other than bonsai? I'm biased in the sense that each and every tree should be the best it "can" be with respect to talent, vision, experience...

    Mugo from field

This tree was field grown at Telperion in a bag 5years from 2yr cutting(7yr) until digging in Feb.13. Bare-rooted, washed and potted in Feb.13 in an Anderson tray and freely grown until late Oct.14. Two cuts were made to branches in Nov.12 and no further work has been done until now. This is a...

    JBP Seedlings

A few years ago we did some maple threads for a learning process and I thought they turned out well. It's that time of year when planning seedling plantings and it's a slow time. For those that don't have much experience with pine or seedlings this my approach at Telperion. The number one goal...

    Lodestone

A hundred years ago :-) I was in the garden studying a tree, just standing there. I don't know how long I was there or how long my father-in-law was behind me. He said "Wood" what in the hell are you doing? I replied, just counting leaves. Ideally we have our bonsai as a source relaxation...

    Pop-up

Is anyone getting a pop-up from State.js service.com open/save This is the only site I experience this and am wondering what it is. I don't go to or open things unsolicited. Just curious

    Zrlkova

A while back there were some discussions about some of the problems with growing Zelkova. They like to grow! A few big roots is their preference and callus can be a problem. My approach is to get the roots under control first in order to control the heavy callus growth at chop sites.

    Nishiki JBP cutting exposed roots

I was going to reply to growing from seed but another thread seemed a better option. This is a Nishiki JBP cutting I took to make an exposed root over a piece of hard/dense lava. This variety produces the "wings" type bark and I wanted to show off the bark in a different style that's not...

    Internship

Rather than Hijack the thread about Ryan I thought I would start a new thread. Si raised concerns about internships being illegal. In general they are but as in most things there are exceptions. My research into the law is a little different than Si's. Wood So, what are the general laws...

    Intern at Telperion

Just a heads up, there are a few open dates this fall for anyone wanting to intern at Telperion Farm from Oct. thru second week of Nov. Hands on work with me doing all the things seasonally applicable in all stages of growing bonsai. It's totally dependent on your schedule and the only cost is...

    Doing Virtuals

Hey Guys and Gals, how does one go about doing virtuals or inserting colored lines. I'm very limited in my computer skills and need a primer. Simple to complex, whatever anyone does. Thanks Wood

    Small World

The bonsai community in the USA is realatively a small one and I understand some people want to be anonymous. I have been a professional lurker on forums for years and I have noticed recently that more and more people are using synonyms or pseudonyms or no name at all in their post. Is it me or...

    2010 BonsaiNut Trident Project

At Telperion we use several methods for growing Trident depending on what we want to achieve. I'll try to do one at a time over an extended time. We do a few things differently than most people but that's what makes the world go around ;) Chris and I have been having an ongoing discussion about...
