I’ve had it for more than one year now. Inner foliage died last winter in the smaller tree. I’m just leaving it alone and letting it grow. @Scooter9166 - 5a
Awesome thanks! I'll do it next year. I believe it is a red maple. Here's what it looked like 3 years ago. https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/what-kind-of-maple-is-this.19936/
Is there a good way to fix the taper in the trunk? There was a high root attached to that part of the trunk and I guess created the taper. Should I just cut/carve or let it grow? Thanks for all the help
Would it be better to put it in a larger pot and let it grow out for a few years? Is it okay to prune it now or should I wait until next spring to do it? Any tips on pruning and caring for it?
I just got this Hinoki from Brussel’s Bonsai. I was expecting more of a single trunk and got this one. I don’t know how to style it with 2 trunks. Should I cut the other trunk or just keep it?
Can a barbados cherry handle Houston winter? Our temperatures right now are in the mid to low 40's and 30's. Should I put them in the garage at night or will they be fine outside?
So its been 2 months and the tips of the foliage are turning brown on the apex. I scratched the bark and its still green under. Whats happening to it? What should I do?
I don't have cut paste. Is there anything I could use that could act like cut paste? There's still some bark behind the apex. Hopefully that branch will survive.
So that part of the branch is most likely dead now. Right? I should've left a small amount of bark behind or underneath that dead branch so that it could receive its nutrients.
I bought a shrub from a local garden center that looked something like this. 70% off and it was only $6
And somehow I turned it into this with just a pair of pruners
I don't know if that branch on the right will survive since I took off most of the bark on the part that is dead. Will it...
I went back to the place where I bought it, and the man said it is a Serissa. I recently put it in a new pot without cutting too much roots, and now the leaves are droopy and crispy but they are still green. What do I do? Is it dying?
I don't want it to be too large. Just something upright thats around 2 feet or so. The tree right now is only as thick as a pencil. How large of a container should I put it in? Will a 5 gallon pot be good enough?
Is it ok if I keep it in a 2 gallon nursery pot as it grows to thicken it up a bit and move it later to a bigger one? Or should I put it in a even bigger pot now?
Thanks for the help. I'm pretty new to bonsais. The central lobes of the leaves are pretty long, so I guess it's an Amur Maple. Some of the the leaves are serrated, but they're not too jagged or sharp. Is that normal?
