Who's doing the bonsai two step

I installed a heater in my little greenhouse just so I wouldn't have to do the shuffle, and when winter nights get below 20 I kick it on for my hardy trees as well. I couldn't imagine putting my tropicals inside right now. it's essentially 2nd spring right now in there.

    Small 6x6 greenhouse

Ya, my is the ol Harbor Freight Special, after one winter I know what you mean. went through about 8 tubes sealing it all up. I built a window in mine and mounted an exhaust fan (box fan) that does the trick. I was looking at making an intake vent and thought that would work well. I'll probably...

    What is your job?

I work at a transportation company managing hundreds of loads of freight on any given day for a popular outfitter. Lots of emails.... lots and lots of emails

    Small 6x6 greenhouse

If you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase the Window Vents? and how much were they? I've been looking for some like that but can't find anything that has a decent price. Is this the Harbor Freight Kit? looking good btw!

    Best Fertilizer for Fukien Tea

I feed my Fukien tea like I do my other trees, a lot and often with a balanced fert. It has been doing extremely well. Had it for about a year and I've repotted, styled it, and it hasn't skipped a beat.

    Any cyclists here?

I pulled this photo from google, but I purchased this a few months ago after not riding since I was a kid. I had no idea how much I would enjoy it. I work 7 excruciatingly long days at work then have 7 days off where I've been averaging 130 miles a week. Pretty decent entry level mountain bike...

How did you get started in bonsai?

I was talking to my neighboor who has these gigantic juniper bushes. She said her son always wanted to make bonsai out of them because he use to do it in the 80's. I went inside and happened to google the term b/c I didn't know anything about them. I ran into this photo and it literally blew my...

    new ponderosa? virtual?

I have the opportunity to buy this newly collected Ponderosa for a very good price. While it's not super twisty like they can be I think there is definately a nice tree in there. I wouldn't bring it home until spring after it's pushed some new candles. From what I understand they got the whole...

Baby Trident Maple - Techniques to Grow Out?

I would keep it alive until spring. Remove any roots growing downward and place it ontop of a tile in the ground where you will get the fastest development. The tile will prevent roots from growing downward and will assist in growing a nice nebari.

    The Tree Thread

Wow! do you need that front end loader to move that tree! I couldn't imagine how expensive a proper pot would be for that thing. I literally can't look away from that tree.

    My Juniper, Thoughts?

did you just create the shari/jin? If so, wire some movement into that Jin while there is still time.

    All my trees.

I know its difficult but you should really try to slow down. Do Not repot out side of spring. You probably just killed the remaining pines... I by no means am an expert, but one thing I have learned is BE PATIENT! You have a nice variety of trees btw. If you have to dig trees now try to not...

    collected siberian

Well, i't been awhile since I have logged on here, Unfournately the Elm didn't make it. Two others I collected from the same area (albeit less cool trees) are growing like crazy! I think it's because I was being dim where I placed the newly collected tree in my greenhouse. I had already started...

    collected siberian

I hope you're right! That's what I was thinking. If it's doing well, I think I am gonna take it to get Peter Tea's advice... Or wait til next year. Nice project you linked. I have another siberian (my first collected tree with NO character) that was a telephone pole I collected in spring...

    collected siberian

I collected this "old" siberian between two railroad ties on an abandoned line that hasn't been used in 8 years. Pretty sure the train would roll over top for years and has been able to grow freely since the line went down. When I cut the tap root i counted about 20 rings. I got very few roots...

    Top chop for Cypress

If it were my tree, I would think about chopping between the first two branches. looks like you have a little bit of taper then a straight trunk.

Here you go CadillacTaste. I plan on taking it to a workshop with Peter Tea in April to get his opinion. First time I have ever sat with someone of his caliber so I am kind of looking forward to it!

    This just happened...

I bought a sumo hakurin satsuki azalea from scott last spring. He recommended not repotting it for atleast two years. I have been pulling the flower buds the last two years to preserve it's energy for branch growth. Kind of a bummer b/c I want to see it in bloom. It's really starting to take...
