    Ficus questions

Just an update: After I moved the tree to the window where it gets morning sun, it has already started lots of new growth! I will soon be getting a humidity tray for it as well as a new pot. Thanks everyone!

    Ficus questions

Yes we do have dry heat in the summer, so I will find a spot fot it that has afternoon shade. As far as the cfl bulb, I looked it up on google and it looks like just a regular house bulb (twisty style). Is there a difference in the cfl and a regular one? How far back should I trim it? I'm...

During summer could I leave it out overnight as well? It gets down to the 50-60 degree range at night

    Ficus questions

Interesting. I had no idea my tree could even produce a fig! I think that would be exciting just because I'm new to this lol. But this spring when I repot it, I will use a pot with good drainage. Does anyone have any soil suggestions for it? Right now its in regular potting soil but I've heard...

    Ficus questions

I have had my ficus for a few years now. I've noticed that some bonsai Ficus produce figs, but mine never has. I know there are different types of ficus, so is mine probably a type that doesn't produce? I got it from walmart, if that helps. Here is a photo of it. I do plan on repotting it this...

Hello from Colorado, need advice for my tree

Just to show what I am talking about, here are the leaves that were affected. There were a couple more leaves that got it but they aren't as affected as these.

Hello from Colorado, need advice for my tree

I just assumed it was sunburned, because just a few leaves, mostly the ones facing the sun, turned kind of yellow. They didn't get crispy or fall off though. And they didn't really look like the photo that was posted either. Also after I moved it from that particular window the yellowing kind of...

Would this old wheelbarrow work as an outdoor pot?

Darn ok. I'm glad my brother thought of this! It never even crossed my mind. Maybe I could find a way to fix the wheels so I could wheel it into the garage when it freezes at night. Usually in the daytime it gets above freezing so I could bring it back out in the daytime.

Would this old wheelbarrow work as an outdoor pot?

I have this old wheelbarrow that I am planning on planting something in this spring. I had an idea to put a Juniper bonsai in it, but then my brother thought that since the juniper would be planted above ground it might freeze in the winter (we are in Colorado and winter temps get below zero...

Hello from Colorado, need advice for my tree

Here is a better picture of my Ficus that I took last night. The slight yellow that you can see on the leaves on the left side are what is left over from the sunburn it got while in my west window. But now I have it sitting in my east window so it can get the morning sun which isn't as intense...

    Starting my own Juniper bonsai

Yes I live in Colorado, so yes it is pretty cold here now. I would wait to cut until maybe March or around then. I should have worded my original post better, I meant that I was thinking of using small cuttings, like ones that are just a few inches long. Not large branches.

    Starting my own Juniper bonsai

I was thinking about starting my own bonsai tree from one of our large juniper trees at our house. I have never done this before, so I will be needing all the advice and help I can get. So far from what I have read, it sounds like I will need to cut a branch from the big tree in the early...

Hello from Colorado, need advice for my tree

Ok that is what I was wondering. I will find a better pot and look for a better soil as well. I will repot it this spring. Thanks for the helpful info! We have a ton of Juniper trees at our house, I would love to get a bonsai Juniper! I've never grown a bonsai outdoors, so that would be a...

Hello from Colorado, need advice for my tree

Ok, I will find a lighter spot for it to sit. I had it sitting in a west facing window for a while but the leaves got sunburned so I moved it. Just a sidenote, the window you can see in the picture usually has the blinds up, but I took that picture at night which is why they are shut. But thanks...

Hello from Colorado, need advice for my tree

Hello everyone! I am new to this forum and I have one bonsai tree, which I think is a Ficus. I bought it at walmart several years ago. It has been doing very well, but I would like to learn how to better care for it so that maybe it will get more leaves. It is currently in a plastic pot that...
