    Ficus styling advice

I think you're doing alright, it's a pleasant enough piece of stock. I'd pull those branches down, wire in gentle curves the way you have, just fan it out. I think you'll struggle getting decent ramification indoors - I started bonsai with a ficus in a Bronx apartment and the struggle is real.

Mixed Forest Planting...Water Elm and Bald Cypress

First, I really like the planting overall. I tried to think about 'what would it be if it were only one species' and I think in either direction it would be a lesser piece. I think this looks awesome and insanely naturalistic (from the Texas swamps, y'all). I think if you had more black pebbles...

    Wisteria

More than immortal, aggressive. I catch them sometimes sending vining tendrils around my other trees. A few of the smaller bonsai are missing. I think… I think it ate them.

    need bonsai mentor

I'm in Pennsylvania myself, it's actually a great place to do bonsai. I've never been to Chase Rosade's studio, but I've heard good things. A little farther afield, in Harrisburg PA, you have Jim Doyle's "Nature's Way Nursery" which has excellent trees for sale and top notch bonsai-ists...

    Ebihara maples

I've got a few maples I'm repotting this year. At least one of them needs substantial branch development, so hell, might as well do this with it.

    Bonsai as Carry on

That's his decision. For whatever reason he decided that he didn't want to use his real name on this site. I think in the interests of politeness it's best to respect that wish. I think that it's rude to use information that was collected elsewhere to out someone in this fashion...

    Bonsai as Carry on

Some people might not want to use their real name. If that's the case why disrespect their wishes?

    My Buddy and Me

Hi Sean, my name's Joe. I'd advise you against the seed route. You wind up spending a lot of just waiting for them to grow. Buying a few trees from the local nursery is a great idea! I'd continue to pick up a few of them. Depending on how far you want to take this, I'd try and find a local...

How old were you when you started bonsai?

I was around eight years old or so and got a mallsai and Amy Liang's bonsai book. I was pretty hooked after that, and intermittently started taking classes. Still hooked on it.
