    Chinese elm help!

Hey everyone! I got this Chinese Elm as a Christmas gift from my wonderful mom. I know it was tough for her to pay what she did for a seemingly worthless (to her) tree. It is my first elm and I like it. No I am relatively new to bonsai still but I know this thing has a few “issues” structurally...

    Should I keep this branch??

This is incredible. I wish I could create these “simulation” pictures! It really helps to see what things could be while developing a tree to inspire and keep you on track. I like this version very much.

    Should I keep this branch??

I really appreciate the time and attention that you guys are giving this. I can see all views and will consider all of them. I think it is clear that I will have to let this tree recover and reevaluate but I love that this site provides an archive to refer back to when that time comes. Based on...

    Should I keep this branch??

Thank for the drawing. It helps a lot. Unfortunately that blue circled area is coming down from the top (overbearing) branch I believe but I’ll have to examine closer when I get home to be sure. I’m afraid, if I’m right, that I will be left with quite a void ☹️. I do like your plan for the right...

    Should I keep this branch??

Thank you SO much for taking so much time to share this with me. I am beyond grateful. I will re-read this several times I’m sure before it comes time to work on this tree again. I understand your points about all the bar branches. I’m going to be honest, I did not notice how many there were (my...

    Should I keep this branch??

I have no idea what type of juniper this is because it was not labeled when I bought it but I need some styling advise. There were two main side branches and then a straight trunk that went to the moon. I Jinned the “top” and used the upper most side branch as my new apex. My question is weather...

    Juniper styling assistance

So I’ve pulled the tree in and up as well as shorten the jins based on y’all’s suggestions. I also thought I’d provide a “before” picture. It has a lot of filling out to do (it’s a bit leggy) but I’m happy with this as a starting point. Thank you all for your advice and suggestions.

    Juniper styling assistance

Hey guys! been a while since I’ve been on but it’s good to be back. The last three years I have been traveling to ND for work 6 months at a time. Long story short, I left my girlfriend in charge of watering my trees and came home to a bunch bacon in pots.... luckily I was (and still very much...

    Arctic blue willow

Only in my wildest dreams:) it's not mine but I too admire it. This is the tree that made me go crazy for willows as Bosnia. Mine is just a big willow "bush" right now. Hopefully it will take well to pruning in the winter. We shall see. Fingers crossed.

    Park's Bonsai Farm? VA

overpriced. You are going to have to haggle to get a fair deal. (Something I didn't do) the lady is really nice but it's not the most professional place. Worth a look see if you're going to be in the area anyway I suppose.

    eBay elm... Ehh

Well...I did it. It looks rather sad right now but since I chopped it (1 week) it has put out quite a few new buds. Looking forward to seeing what happens with it. Thanks for the advice everyone. Zac

    Arctic blue willow

I have a salix alba (white willow) that I have grown from a 1"diameter cutting. This was my first tree (I love willows) that I acquired for bonsai before learning that they aren't ideal subjects. I haven't had any issue with die back and have had a nice amount of new growth. From what I have...

    Orchids

The ice cube theory does work. (At least in the little experience I've had with orchids. I've had mine for 3 years watering once a week with 3 small ice cubes. The tag that came with them actually had that method written on under the care notes. They have bloomed annually. Hope this helps!

Trunk Chopping a Nursery Stock Maple Tree

I remember Vance (I believe) saying that trees with roots wrapped in bags from the nursery are usually lacking in the root department. So you may not need to take as much as you think. He was speaking of mugos but I assume this is pretty general with all burlap wrapped trees. (But I don't know...
