So, it's been a while. Summer is crazy hot over here. Temp goes up to 30°C/86°F Not a drop of rain to be seen.. Al went well till I got home from holidays. I've found my acer in this state: Can anyone point out a cause? Too much sun? (got moved because they found it easier to water...) Too...

    Malus & Prunus Mahaleb

Update: The tree is growing at a fast rate. As a rooky I'm unsure of the actions that I need to take so advice is more than welcome. Do I need to cut back the new growth or just let it grow? Plan with this tree is to add some more volume. Also, during the day the tree is full of ants. I...

'This is not a contest tree' Fagus - Supathaifly

Hi, Thank you for your time. I did scrape the green cambium with a sharp blade. Hopefully I did enough. I also added some rooting powder at the edge, dunno if that might help. What result should I get by doing two air layers on the same trunk? No result at all, only the upper one will produce...

    Malus & Prunus Mahaleb

Thanks Peter, not the same species for sure... I'm surely gonna ask Danny his opinion on this one next time. I've been looking a possible candidate but was unable to find one. The bark has a silver/grey color, new growth is green/brown.

    Malus & Prunus Mahaleb

Hi Peter, Yes, I bought it at gingko Center Laarne. Danny sold it to me as a mahaleb, imported from Spain. I don't have the knowledge myself to determine wether this is correct or not, I took his word for it. At this point, I did not get flower or sign of fruit. What should make you think that...

'This is not a contest tree' Fagus - Supathaifly

Yes Danny, I filled it up with sphagnum moss that I keep wet/moist. I'm not gonna touch it till after summer unless the roots start busting out the package... (wishfull thinking... :D)

I'll keep that in mind for the next time. I was a bit carefull on where to make the incision so I did it a bit lower then had foreseen. I might reconsider.... Yes, Both were made on the same trunk. I did think about the fact that it might be a bad idea but took a shot at it anyway. Hope I have...

'This is not a contest tree' Fagus - Supathaifly

I did two air layers yesterday. Was a struggle because it was my first attempt at this but I asume it went ok. So no further work will be done on this tree till it's time to take a look at the new roots.. ?

Any advice? Saw two possible place to airlayer. What do you think? First cut is at the base of the tree. Quiet some branches to choose from later on. Second cut at the top with this in mind. (Fagus sylvatica Jef Corthouts | Fagus sylvatica - Jef Corthouts - H: 90 cm)

    Malus & Prunus Mahaleb

Added a fine layer of fertilizer yesterday. This is a mixture made at the nursery. They use the same fertilizer. Lasts about a month.

    My first real one :-)

Thank you for your advice. My English let me down a bit there. I meant pinching instead of pruning. But as you said, might have missed that window as well... Yesterday I added solid fertiliser. This is a mix made at the nursery. I've been adviced to lay a thin layer of fertiliser at a monthly base.

So.. time to get started with this one. I'd like to airlayer the tree but having a hard time deciding where the new roots should appear. Anyone who has some ideas? At this point, new leaves start to appear where the old ones where. Is this a good time to do an airlayer?

Only one flower left on the malus. Would the bees have done their work so I'd get some apples...? ☺ The prunus has made some progress as well. I don't have a plan figured out for this trer yet. It seems like it need some time to recover so I'll just let it be for this year.

    Malus & Prunus Mahaleb

I attended a workshop today. The idea was to work on my wiring technique as I'm quiet inexperienced. I took the malus and prunus. The prunus will be left untouched. I did some work on the malus. The foliage has been opened up.

Ok, here we go.. Any tree, so which one to choose. Decided to go with this fagus. Bought it for about €20 (25$) when it was at a 30% discount. When I got it the tree was over 3 meters (over 10ft). As it was never gonna fit in my car I decided to chop it at the shop. I wonder why ppl were...
