    Late Larch re-pot

I scratched bark on lower limb to reveal green. Hope springs eternal, but I think it is gone. I have a particle of faith though, so will continue to wait and watch.

    Late Larch re-pot

Sprayed with aspirin. Any new sprouts come out with sagging needles. Tree is sadly a goner. Branches aren't brittle yet, but...

    Late Larch re-pot

I removed all wiring this morn along with almost all remaining foliage. With wire gone, trimmed back to the few buds that are barely emergent. Pulled it out of the hard rain this morn. Back outside now. A few mites still around. Red pin head sized mites all gone, but near microscopic ones that I...

    Late Larch re-pot

Gee Farms in MI. Following two sprayings of friendly bug spray of soap, neem and peroxide I resorted to Raid House and Garden. No webs this morn but two mites. Sprayed again just now. Tree hanging on, but struggling. I trimmed off much of the browned and droopy needles and hoping for the best.

    Late Larch re-pot

I have some native tamaracks too. I was treating this tree somewhat similarly to its' detriment. I've only had it (now lost it) for a year.

    Late Larch re-pot

I removed all Cottonwood cottony webs from tree yesterday to examine better for mites and left overnight. I do have red spidermites via the white paper test. I sprayed this morning with soapy neem oil mixture combined with peroxide and 5 hours later mites are still moving around. I retreated...

    Late Larch re-pot

It's raining today now and threatening to do so for the rest of the week. I didn't want more water on those roots yet, but will put it out between showers tomorrow.

    Late Larch re-pot

I thought it was a surface fungus too, but then wondered if it was an accumulation of cottonwood fluff which has been abundant lately and is on the surface of my other trees' pots too.

    Late Larch re-pot

My once beautiful European Larch is flagging. It emerged well from winter this spring. In Mich it is still spring, very wet and cool. I experimented with varying watering and amounts of sun exposure. In mid May brown tips were visible. Rest of tree seemed healthy. I clipped off brown tips but...

    Trees didn't wake up.

I also experienced a harsh winter with 1/3 of my 20+ trees dying or coming out weakly, including the corky in my avatar. I live in mid Michigan. I did keep my trees in a protected window well over winter where I could watch them and water occasionally. Temps in mid 30's mostly. have followed...

    Quince die back

Follow up on the Quince. As you can see its new growth is prolific and healthy. I moved out of heavy sun and it gets morning sun only and I reduced watering to every other day. Hornbeam is still healthy, but Beech will be an antifungal project for after fall drop and again in late spring. I...

    Quince die back

I repotted in May 2016. This plant has been repotted every 3 years. I have moved plant to receive only morning sun.

    Quince die back

You may be referring to the Beech and not the Hornbeam. But, thank you for the deficiency guide. I've updated my profile too. I'm in 5b zone.

    Quince die back

Thank you all. I am in central Michigan. Soil in this tall pot drains well. Repotted 1 year ago. Raised trunk/roots up 3" to create elevated nebari (photo). Tree in shade by 4 pm. Next to it Korean Hornbeam doing well (photo). Also nearby wild dug American Beech looks like this (same for the...

    Quince die back

Shown here is new growth tips on my quince in the first photo. In the second is what the tip will become in 2-3 days. This bonsai usually blooms prolifically, but did not this spring. Has anyone else experienced this and have ideas for a solution?
