    Emerging needle color?

I ...think.... the color is fine. (?) I just pulled the yellow tipped .....OLD.... (3 year or so) needles that were sticking out around the bottom of those clusters. The tree with no candles....

Trimmed a trio of Seijus. They looked like a big green bush with 3 trunks. All grown together. Now at least they are back to 3 separate trees. 😐

    Looking for a shade item.

By "top dressing" do you mean the very small rocky stuff they use temporarily for shows? I got some that I never used but it didn't look like it would break down....ever.

It seems to be the akadama compound in the mix that dries out. Last time I used sphagnum was for an air layer in a plastic wrap. It was stringy and was hard to get wet. For the air layer i used a hypodermic to inject water into the wrap.

    Looking for a shade item.

Wasn't thinking of a repot. What I did with the elm was shallowly dig out some substrate and spoon in some potting soil to create more moisture.

Any pix? Especially the...canopy... and ....metallic mesh shadecloth. ????? I am also considering moving the patio table with umbrella closer to the rack. It might work. Still think I will have to water more this summer. The mystery is why this soil that I have used for years is so cranky...

    Looking for a shade item.

This year I got some commercial mix from Maruyama Bonsai in Sacramento. It.....seems... ??.... to be pretty resistant to water retention. VERY FAST DRAINING.... but is it TOO fast? The mix is supposedly akadama, pumice, and lava. And I have used it before with no concerns. THIS YEAR'S dries...

Today I took more crappy pictures. The pix are of that heavy juniper that is too big for me to lift enough times to get it "posed."" I wired the sucker to let more sun in today. This is the side view And this badly exposed picture ....somewhat...shows the position of the pads...

Candle with double candle growing at tip, what to do with this?

I'm wondering what would happen if the "extra" candles were left on? Could the main one be halved at a later date or would those small one develop into regular candles? No habla "PINES!" Wish I did, but really don't. 😥

    JBP...uppot or not?

Well you're wrong. I took it out of the pot and am keeping it in the bathroom where it can recover. Dried off the roots and cut most off. I'm sure it's okay as an uncle told me that's what you do with a sick dog. 🤪🤪🤪

    JBP...uppot or not?

I have a quandary. This is a JBP bunjin that I've had for 12 years or so. It was a volunteer from a large one in the yard in my last house. In this non-bonsai pot, it was pretty nice green. Not liking the pot much, I put it in this one ...THINKING.... that more bottom venting would be...

    Juniper disease?

Do you know WHY the....growers.... are doing this?

    Repotting vs bud break

When I see a peek of green, I repot. On mildew prone trees like oak, I also begin copper spray VERY DILUTE for the time from then to leafout. (leaf-out?)

Failed assassination attempt. Thought.....mayybbeee...... could skip cotoneaster repot this year. Tried chopsticking. Jackhammer time. So I .....yanked it out of the pot. Bush, soil ball....the works. Dumped the crap. Stuffed it back in pot and poured in some new soil...

    Uncommon bonsai species

Baccharis pilularis - Coyote Bush Coyote Bush (also called Coyote Brush) is a common California native shrub. It is versatile and adaptable in a wide range of landscape applications. Cool woody trunk. All it pushed was long runners. I think it died.

...Looks.... juniper-ish. But never have found out for sure. That color is pretty accurate. Bluish grey. ?????

I don't recall a 2nd flush at any time. Possible but sure don't remember it. I never defoliate. It will be tossed if it fails. This is a quandary. Everything looks usual except the soil remaining wet-ish looking. I hope it is like yours and does a nice ...bounce back. Right...

Fretting !! Perhaps needlessly but want opinion/s. This is the oak from the repot from hell that I posted earlier. I took a LOT of Brillo Pad root chunks. I know that oaks don't like root attacks. But I left what I ....thought... was plenty of other roots and even some larger ones that I...

Made the REpot! SHEESH !!! 😱 I always expect Mr. Oak to be a repot bitch! I wasn't wrong. ROOTS !!! DENSE! I'm hoping the slightly larger pot will encourage OUTWARD root growth. I'm too old to fight another repot. It was a mistake to put it in the oval...

    For an oak repot...

Oh. Okay, I'll go with the larger shallower pot. Like no one said, it looks better anyway.
