    Korean Cherry

Is the mother tree at the nursery? Just curious, would like to see what it looks like if it is. I'm sure the rain didn't help the flowers much, mines all but bare now.....I'll probably be in again on Saturday for a Trident.

    Korean Cherry

Thanks Bob! I guess I should have asked the exact species while I was there. I was looking at info for King Cherry & when you said it was Korean Cherry I thought it was the same thing/different name....Glad to know that they root well from cuttings. If your ever in the area, I'd definitely...

    Korean Cherry

I'm assuming it's a "King Cherry" perhaps. I'd have to defer to @bonsaibp for exact species identification. He had 2 types of cherry trees at his nursery, the other being "Nanking Cherry" which was written on the containers.

    Korean Cherry

First pic below is where the vision for this tree came from. Hoping to get it looking similar in the future with the addition of a possible shorter second trunk, which is why I left the stump in pic 2. If it doesn't work out I'll chop it off & hopefully no harm done.... I wasn't thinking about...

    Korean Cherry

Picked up this Korean Cherry from @bonsaibp's nursery today..Chopped it down, wired a few branches, bent the trunk and threw it in a pond basket where it'll stay for the next year or two....

Juniperus x Pfitzeriana "Sea of Gold" nursery stock

Hahaha! Yes, that was indeed why I quoted you with additional pics....I was wondering why you would want to see "the whole tree, where there is no foliage".....thought maybe you were going to suggest something really cool I didn't know about. I'd definitely seek assistance from the local Bonsai...

Juniperus x Pfitzeriana "Sea of Gold" nursery stock

Thanks Johng! Definitely took a long time as this was actually my first time wiring a tree. I was removing branches as I went and had to take a lot of time to stare at the tree and decide if I wanted to keep or cut a branch...Almost all the branches are holding their bends with the exception of...

Juniperus x Pfitzeriana "Sea of Gold" nursery stock

Rough styling and wiring. Left a few branches on as I'm still not 100% on the direction for this tree. Going to let it do it's thing for a year or two then re-visit for additional styling..I think it's got good potential though...

Juniperus x Pfitzeriana "Sea of Gold" nursery stock

After finally picking a front (complete opposite of what I was looking at before) I did some wiring & additional pruning, but ran out of daylight before I could take any pictures. I'll get pics up as soon as I can...

Juniperus x Pfitzeriana "Sea of Gold" nursery stock

Picked up this 5 gal juniper from the nursery a few weeks ago and did quite a bit of cleanup and repotted into a 3 gal training pot yesterday. I've been staring at it since I got it and I'm stuck on the style I want to move forward with.

    Liquidambar styraciflua (American Sweetgum) ROR

Well, I went ahead and went with this combo.....all wrapped up & buried. Once I bare rooted it, the trunk actually went further down into the soil and was really curved, had to improvise and place it a little higher to facilitate the extra length..but I think it'll look nice in a couple years...

    Liquidambar styraciflua (American Sweetgum) ROR

Thanks JKL! Really nice landscapes!! Definitely got me to rethink this planting. I think I've decided on actually using the one stone (the dark granite) I wasn't going to initially. The tree's a little bigger in this render than it actually is, but I think over time and with lots of training...

    Liquidambar styraciflua (American Sweetgum) ROR

Yeah, definitely ruled out this grouping of rocks, just doesn't look right/natural at all...

    Liquidambar styraciflua (American Sweetgum) ROR

Couple close-ups of the base and surface roots. And a very rough sketch (I'm not an artist, haha) of what I picture it looking like by end of summer....everything below the red line in the second sketch will be below the soil surface.

    Liquidambar styraciflua (American Sweetgum) ROR

I collected these 5 rocks over the past few months, 3 maybe 4 granite (not sure what the upper left dark rock is), and 1 Lava Rock, and have been patiently waiting for this Liquidambar to be dormant for a bit. Last leaves fell mid-late November. Guy at the nursery said winter is best time to...

    Monterey Pine Pruning/Wiring

Sadly, no good "before re-potting" pics other than the first one of the tree in the cart at the nursery. Other pics were taken this morning, Full tree shot (don't mind the xmas decorations) soil composition (top half is what you see & bottom half is mostly small pebbles with some added pine bark...

    Monterey Pine Pruning/Wiring

Thanks all....I've found so much conflicting information online it was hard to know what was good advice and what wasn't. I'll put up a pic as soon as I'm able, won't get home until it's dark tonight. Couple of points though, I guess I wouldn't say I fully bare rooted it, but did knock off a...

    Monterey Pine Pruning/Wiring

New to the forums and beginning to expand my Bonsai collection/knowledge and hoping to get some advice. I picked up a 5 Gallon "Christmas Tree" - Monterey Pine (Pinus Radiata) from the local OSH (Nursery) and re-potted in a 15ish gallon container with a mixture of pebbles, pine bark, sphagnum...
