No more political expression in your avatars or quotes, please...

Me too, I guess, but I've seen very little true "discourse" or legitimate "debates" this political season.

    Hello All

It doesn;t really matter how old a bonsai IS. What's important is that the viewer THINK it is 10 years older than Methusla.

    Care of new azalea?

Back to your tree . . . You are right. Outdoor Idaho will be too cold for the Azalea -- ESPECIALLY since it has just got an out-of-season repot. An unheated garage or porch might do so long as it doesn't freeze solid. It probably should not be kept in your living space.

I really don't think that true. We've all said it over and over again. And again.

    Prince of Wales juniper

Before you "pick up" any more trees, sit and look at the ones you have. Does any one of then cry out to you that "I want to be a bonsai!"? The one you pictured certainly does not -- to me, at least. If it (or another -- unpictured) does call out to you, can you explain why and how to us? I...

Oh fer Pete's sake . . . Join the crowd. As BN says, "Everybody dies." Some go sooner, some later. But we all go. Kicking and screaming, or otherwise. I'm more than a few years past the Use by date assigned to my obscure lung ailment. I've been and am ready, and find myself wishing it...

    Sandstone from Zion National

I NEVER suggested you (or anyone) could chip sandstone. Ever. This looks more like hard-rock (chert, flint, etc.) that you often find embedded in a sandstone strata and which was used by aboriginals for tool making. I have a tad of experience, too. Took 4 years of geology at Arizona State...

Well, try sticking your thumb out during a hard desert sandstorm sometime.:eek:

    Sandstone from Zion National

Agree, but as a long-time desert dweller and a great fan of both desert environments and geology I disagree with your assessment of the hadriness of sandstone.

    Sandstone from Zion National

Absolutely NOT; That stone hasn't been scoured; it has been CHIPPED. Huge difference for anyone who has looked.

    what's wrong with small trees?

Hmmm. Seems clear to me. Just substitute "worst" for "best." Then think about it.

    Sandstone from Zion National

Technically, if this was gotten inside Zion National Park, your friend broke the law. NO collecting of anything (except trash) allowed. A comment or two on the stone. True sandstone will last forever so don't worry about longevity -- IF that is sandstone. It looks like a chert to me, and...
