Stone Pines (Tips for a Conifer Newbie)

Growth style, tips for a newbie in conifers/pines. I'm thinking of going for a flattened hokidachi. No, I'm not crazy, and i know that style is almost unheard of in most pines, but it is the natural shape of a Stone/Italian Pine, and i put what's natural for a mature specimen in the specific...

    A Little Issue (Root Rot)

Also, i'm thinking of a flattened Hokidachi style for my stone pines. It's not a classic "pine" style, but it's what's natural for stone pine. It's like (if you've never seen a wild stone pine) what an african acacia would look like.

The catch is, it was frosted and all the needles but...

    A Little Issue (Root Rot)

ah, yes, good old background. It is indoors for the winter (USDA zone 7b in North America) and presumably been indoors. for a while. It is not the best species for bonsai, being a Stone Pine.

    A Little Issue (Root Rot)

I have a little issue. Someone threw a really bad condition bonsai at me. It was in a really loamy, waterlogged soil. After pruning only bad roots, it left only 1/2 of the original root system (including pruning roughly 1/2 the feeders) because of severe root rot. I have bonsai experience...
