Does anyone know if glazed pots present any advantage over unglazed pots or vice versa?

So I repotted two maples (one pic is attached) into bonsai pots and this is my first time ever doing so. My question is the soil medium level is convex to the top of the pot and while I've seen more than one like this on the boards, how the heck do you water the tree and not wash away the soil...

I have these JBP and I sprouted them last year and they need a lot more growing. But I am wondering, at some they'll need to be root pruned, correct? I've done some searching and found nothing definitive in this regard. If root pruned, when do you do it? I get it with deciduous trees...

Can a Chinese Elm tolerate a repot and trunk chop at the same time? I am guessing they are as hardy as an Amur Maple????

Any response will be appreciated.... 5 or 6 months ago I sprouted these from seed and they seem to have grown okay so far. My question is unlike my Maples and Chinese Elms which I simply place them out of the wind they sit outside all winter. Should the JBPs be treated differently? Thanks

So I root pruned each of these trees Feb 28\Mar 1 and it seems I should prune the branches, however just how much will they tolerate, minimal or a lot? Any input will be appreciated....Thanks.

Just wondering....I have a couple of maple trees and they are budding actually approaching extended budding, Chinese Elms, almost nothing in terms of buds. Do the Elms generally bud later? Thanks.

I root pruned my first tree(s) ever, a couple of Amur maples. I realize there is no absolute time but any idea when it will be clear the root pruning is a failure and the tree(s) won't survive? Yes, I am more pessimistic than I probably should be.

This Chinese Elm is 16 months old, grown from seed. I have three others and this is at least 15-20% larger than the others. But I just noticed this on the trunk this morning, any ideas what it is. It looks seriously bad. The tree otherwise appears healthy.

Anyone in the more southern parts of Baltimore or the Annapolis area interested in taking care of three trees for 8 days. They are not "Bonsai'ed" yet. Sitting $$ is available. Not confident those in the house will treat them well while I am out....anyway I am a bit OCD.

Some of the most internal leaves of my maple trees are turning bright yellow....as shown in the attached photo... The new growth looks fine in the attached photos but I find the yellowing leaves troubling....any ideas\thoughts will be appreciated?

So bought seeds from Sheffields, Chinese Elms, Red Oaks and Water Oaks and many have sprouted and are in pots. I am particularly interested in working with the Elms and an oak or two. The upshot of my rambling is, no way I can manage 30+ trees and I can't be the only whose faced this dilemma...

It appears that Spring has sprung here in Maryland. The two maples discussed in this thread seem to be growing well and each tree's buds look strong. But I am curious, today i found what appear to be super small grains of white rice, 16th of inch or smaller in length and maybe a mm in width...
