Looks like a bald cypress to me. I live south of you in Orange County, CA. Mine already dropped its leaves maybe a month ago. I have a trident maple cultivar that doesn’t shed its leaves. Hasn’t for about 5 years. Maybe your BC has some interesting DNA.

Yeah, stop worrying about browned-out leaves. Mine just lost its leaves in a 10+ zone. It happens … every year. Don’t let it dry out. I had much better luck this year keeping it in another container filled with water. All will be fine. These are very resilient trees.

I mean … I think if you had a substrate of of only pumice, you could water 2x/day and not rot your roots. But “constant” would = immersion, which would only be tolerable for bald cypress.
