    Olive tree just getting started.

I was thinking to update this thread a few weeks ago, so took some photos. I've not been in here for a couple of years. The tree needs repotting and possibly a smaller pot, in the recent photos I'd added two bits of wire to tie the branches down over the winter, ready to prune back to the...

    Olive tree just getting started.

Quick update, not progressed as planned but I'm mainly posting to update those who gave me advice- thanks again. The branches I tried grafting failed and I was worried about the health of the tree but when it started to push out new growth in 2018 I knew it was okay- dropped all but a few old...

    Leather Tool Roll

Great job and will last a lot better than machine stitched, that's before the addition of rivets! Here's one I made, can't find a better pic but I'll post this now I've spent a while looking for one. It shows the botom construction using a thin strip as a gusset to protect the stitching from...

    Planned pruning for small cotoneastor

Here's a cotoneastor which self seeded in a pot under larger garden shrub, grown for a couple of years. Last year I was pretty happy with it as a small bonsai- not very refined but the overall size was about right, it flowered and produced two fruits. I plan to now cut it back to start building...

    Brother in law's Ginkgo

If that's a root which crossed under the trunk could you remove it without too much vulnerable/ scarred wood to create an exposed root design and lift the tree up once roots have thickened? Good luck with it the trunk has some nice taper.

Thanks for the replies- and the photos Twycoss. Leo thanks for taking the time to reply so thoroughly, I've had a think and I've saved your post too to re-read. The pot is 26 cm across so not very thick trunk below the fork- around 2cm. I'll have to think which way to go about re-potting it this...

I'd not thought abut cutting back that far, but I can see how it could work. The lower cut I'd considered was just beneath the fork which I've left. Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks for all the comments and welcomes :) nice to hear the post has encouraged you with your own olive tree Woody! Yeah I wasn't sure about the bulge on the trunk- whether it would be possible to root graft onto it in order to blend it into the nebari, or carve it back like you suggest Tycoss...

    Olive tree just getting started.

I've had this olive for around 15 yrs, I've recently started to style it so I thought I'd share some pics here. I bought it as a bonsai but it ended up sat outside, was potted onto a larger plant pot and ignored for many yrs until my interest in practising bonsai came back. I potted it into...
